Johannesburg, 15 July 2019 - The Adcock Ingram Critical Care facility in Aeroton now boasts two of the best manufacturing facility emergency teams in the country, with its firefighting team winning the prestigious national Marsh Mutual Risk Group (MRG) fire team competition only months after the facility’s first aid team won the national Marsh MRG first aid team competition. 

Emerging among the top teams of 35 in the regional finals in Johannesburg last year, the Aeroton team competed in the national finals in Vereeniging in May 2019, and brought home the 1st place floating trophy – Marsh MRG fire team competition, MRG Final Fire Competition Winners 2019, Extinguisher Drill Winners 2019 and joint 1st Place - Quickest Hose Drill. The annual competitions hosted by Marsh MRG is aimed at encouraging the company’s clients to focus on best practice risk management and are fiercely contested by teams from major manufacturers across the country. Team members and the reserve team were recognised and congratulated at a recent celebration hosted by the Company.  

‘It is crucial that in addition to the physical safety measures that are in place, that our people are well prepared to deal with any fire incidents that may occur. We encourage team members to share their knowledge at home and within their communities. The vice-captain of the team has utilised his training to assist in improving the fire systems at his church. We are very proud of the team’s achievement which has certainly boosted our staff morale, but has also given the management team the assurance that our emergency procedures and teams are top class’, said Dave Dickie, Facility Controller.

This achievement demands extensive training and all staff members had a full day of training once a week to ensure that they were ready to compete. Apart from the physical training the team also were trained on firefighting drills across a range of fire types. This intensive training prepares the team for any fire emergency that they may be faced with at the facility.
