The delicious taste of spicy chai has been enjoyed for thousands of years, with its roots established in the fabric of Indian tea culture. Chai, which is actually the Hindi word for tea, has more recently become a popular choice in many countries, with the traditional Chai being reimagined in various ways.
One of the more recent and popular iterations of chai is the chai latte, which is now offered as a menu item in many restaurants and coffee shops across the country. Prized for its sweet spiciness, warming aroma, and creamy indulgence, the chai latte seems to fall somewhere between hot beverage and dessert. In line with this trend, leading local tea brand, Tetley, has announced two new additions to its popular Chai range just in time for winter – the Tetley Chai Latte in the aromatic Original and fragrant Vanilla flavours.
“We had an overwhelmingly positive response to our Tetley Masala Chai and Elaichi Chai blends which launched a few years ago” explained Candice Sessions, Tetley Tea Marketing Manager.
“With the rise in chai latte popularity, we knew we there was a market to expand into instant chai lattes, offering South African chai fans the comfort of a delicious and aromatic chai latte wherever they are. The colder weather calls for on-the-go winter warmers, and this is the perfect indulgent and soothing drink for the office, school run, after dinner treat, or to share with friends.”
Tetley, which is one of the globe’s biggest tea brands, has crafted its Chai Latte from real spices with inspiration drawn from the traditional preparation of chai according to Indian customs.
Tetley’s Chai Lattes combine the sensory richness of fragrant spices with the creamy indulgence of a latte, and for vanilla fans who love nothing better than the combination of vanilla and chai spices, there’s a Vanilla-flavoured option too. 3 ways to enjoy Tetley’s Chai Lattes
1. The quick way This method of preparing a Tetley Chai Latte is perfect for those who are on the run and need a quick cup of warm deliciousness! Simply empty the Tetley Chai latte sachet into a mug and add 175ml to 200ml of boiling water or milk (or a combination). Stir and enjoy!
2. The creamy way For those who are looking for a chai latte with a little something extra, this one’s for you! Prepare the chai latte with 175ml to 200ml of hot milk, then stir and top with whipped cream. Mmm!
3. The indulgent way Want something even more decadent? Empty the Tetley Chai latte sachet into a mug and add 50ml of boiling water or milk. Stir and cool. Add to a blender along with 100ml of milk and a few scoops of vanilla ice cream and blend until smooth. Top with ice cream or cream and enjoy a delicious Tetley Chai Latte milkshake!
