New spa adds to the wellness trend embraced at Serenity Hills on the KZN South Coast

In the past five years, wellness living has surged, with more people prioritising health, balanced lifestyles, and nature-based living, especially along the coast. On the KZN South Coast, eco-focused estate Serenity Hills embraces this ethos, now further enhanced by the opening of its new spa.
“The KZN South Coast has become renowned for its quality lifestyle, where residents get to enjoy the seaside activities and nature-based living that was previously associated with holidays,” explained Sam Wenger, Development Director of Serenity Hills. “With the growing ‘wellness trend’, we’re seeing more investors looking for estates that offer this lifestyle year-round, opening them up to the many health benefits associated with coastal living. We’re very excited to expand on this trend with the launch of Peaceful Escapes Spa & Beauty Salon within Serenity Hills.”
Launch of the Spa at Serenity Hills
This April, Serenity Hills resident and skilled beautician Sam Mkhulise launched Peaceful Escapes Spa & Beauty Salon. Open to both residents and the public, the spa offers a welcome wellness destination for those in or visiting the Margate area.
Sam brings extensive industry experience. After earning her Beauty Therapy qualification from Thekwini College in 2013, she worked at North Beach Mangwanani Spa, then joined the La Vita Spa group in 2017, specialising in aromatherapy, nails, lashes, brows, and waxing.
In 2021, she moved to the KZN South Coast, refining her craft at Rejuveness Spa in Uvongo. In 2023, she opened her first spa in Izotsha before relocating to Serenity Hills to pursue her dream of creating a tranquil retreat in nature.
“The estate has been referred to as ‘an exquisite sub-tropical paradise’ and that alone should be enough to convince anyone that this is the perfect setting for a spa!” notes Sam. “We hope that, for our clients, Peaceful Escapes Spa and Beauty Salon at Serenity Hills can be their escape to elegance and peace.”
In line with Serenity Hills’ community upliftment ethos, she said there are also opportunities for collaborations with local nail technicians and other beauticians to expand the spa offerings: “We also plan to offer on-the-job training for students in the field alongside employment opportunities.”
The treatments offered include: nails, massages, eyelashes, waxing, tinting and facials. As part of its launch special, Peaceful Escapes Spa & Beauty Salon is running:
- Combo 1 Special: Gel tips and gel toes R300
- Combo 2 Special: Full aromatherapy body massage R500 for 60 minutes

Wellness Living at Serenity Hills
Coastal living, supported by research from the University of Vienna, is linked to better overall health, with these benefits amplified by spa treatments. These include lowered blood pressure, reduction in pain and muscle tension, decreased stress and anxiety, more rejuvenated skin, and better sleep through deep relaxation.
Serenity Hills enhances this lifestyle with eco-conscious design and abundant outdoor activities. Residents enjoy running, hiking, and biking through indigenous forests, with community events promoting fitness.
Mindfulness is encouraged through yoga, Pilates, or tranquil fishing along the Vungu River and estate dams. Care for ageing residents is a priority, with planned on-site facilities including serviced apartments, frail care, dementia care, and step-down care. No matter the stage of life, Serenity Hills supports a healthy, fulfilling lifestyle.
