SA Harvest Launches Virtual Food Pantry for GivingTuesday 2024

This GivingTuesday, SA Harvest, South Africa’s leading food rescue organisation, is launching the Virtual Food Pantry, a digital initiative aimed at providing meals, restoring dignity, and empowering communities. The campaign begins on 3 December 2024, inviting everyone to help create a hunger-free South Africa.

SA Harvest aims to deliver 300,000 nutritious meals to families in need by raising R270,000. Through the Virtual Food Pantry, individuals can contribute donations of any size. The campaign will run for 10 days, from 3 December to 13 December.

A Digital Platform for Real-World Impact

The Virtual Food Pantry is more than just a fundraising platform—it’s a call to action. Donors can choose from various contribution levels:

  • A R20 donation feeds a family of four for two days.
  • A R1,000 donation provides three months of nutritious meals.
  • Monthly recurring donations allow for ongoing impact.

“Our Virtual Food Pantry is a creative way to engage donors and demonstrate how their contributions make a real impact,” said Alan Browde, CEO and founder of SA Harvest. “We’re using this GivingTuesday to bring South Africans together, uniting around a common goal: to fight hunger and uplift those in need.”

Why GivingTuesday Matters

GivingTuesday is a global movement encouraging individuals and organisations to come together and give back to their communities. SA Harvest is leveraging the momentum of GivingTuesday to spotlight the urgent issue of hunger in South Africa and build support for long-term, sustainable solutions.

SA Harvest’s mission goes beyond delivering food—it focuses on restoring dignity, empowering communities, and building resilience. Donations to the Virtual Food Pantry directly fund SA Harvest’s work, including rescuing surplus food, reducing waste, and advocating for an equitable food system.

How to Get Involved

There are several ways to support SA Harvest’s GivingTuesday campaign:

  1. Donate: Visit the Virtual Food Pantry to contribute. Choose a one-time donation via BackaBuddy or set up a recurring donation through SA Harvest’s website.
  2. Share the Message: Spread the word about the campaign on social media, via email, or through WhatsApp.
  3. Become a Recurring Donor: Support SA Harvest with a monthly donation, ensuring sustainable, long-term impact.

A Mission Driven by Stories and Community

Throughout the campaign, SA Harvest will share stories from the communities it serves, illustrating the real-world impact of every donation. Supporters can follow the campaign’s progress through social media updates, track the total funds raised, and witness the difference their contributions are making.

“Every meal you help provide is a step toward a brighter future for our communities,” said Browde. “Together, we can make a tangible difference and ensure that no one in South Africa goes hungry.”
