Masterful Nuy Shiraz named one of country's Top 100 wines

Built on a cornerstone of quality since 1963, Nuy Winery has just once again confirmed its true legacy by starring in the coveted Top 100 South African Wines for 2024.

Nuy’s Mastery Shiraz 2022 features in the Top 100 after taking home a double platinum award in the highly regarded 14^th National Wine Challenge (NWC). Plus, Nuy received three double silver awards for their 2024 Inspiration Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc.

Nuy Winery is situated at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains in the Nuy Valley in the Western Cape. Cellarmaster Christo Basson says their winemaking team is delighted with its latest achievement. “These accolades prove we are on the right track to make wines that appeal to consumers,” says Basson.

More about the 2022 Mastery Shiraz

Paul Burger, senior winemaker at Nuy Winery, says the 2022 vintage of the Mastery Shiraz stands out for its harmonious integration of fruit, oak, and tannins.

“The deep, ruby-red colour promises a full-bodied character,” says Burger, “a promise that is kept with aromas of blackberries, plums, and vanilla, a rich and velvety texture, ripe dark fruit flavours, layers of oak ageing complexity, and a lingering finish of dark chocolate and espresso.”

Fermented in a combination of French and American oak for 18 months, it can be enjoyed now or kept to further develop over the next few years.
