Bonnievale Cabernet Sauvignon dazzles wine judges at consecutive shows
Submitted by: YOLANDI de WetCabernet Sauvignon from Bonnievale Winery has once again received glowing recognition at two prominent wine shows. Most significantly, the Bonnievale River Collection Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 won Double Platinum at the National Wine Challenge (NWC) and such, is included as the year’s Top 100 wines.
Not only is this the second consecutive time the Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon has received Double Platinum at the NWC, but this specific vintage has also just been awarded Gold in the inaugural Cabernet Sauvignon Challenge. Bonnievale was the only winery from its region among the Challenge’s 33 award-winners.
“We are immensely proud to receive these latest awards,” says Bonnievale Winery chief winemaker Marthinus Rademeyer. “They certainly reflect our commitment and passion for this cultivar and reaffirm our constant pursuit, as a team, to deliver top quality wines.”
The Cabernet Sauvignon variety is traditionally a hotly contested fine wine category around the world. It commonly represents the pinnacle of winery portfolios, so doing well in this category is a significant indicator of quality. With these new achievements for Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonnievale once again demonstrates the suitability of vineyards in the Robertson region to excel.
For the making of Bonnievale Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon, only vines that show a consistent history of good quality are selected for inclusion. They are subjected to strict viticultural management while fruit is regularly tested to be harvested – by hand - at optimal ripeness. Secondary selection then ensures that only the best of the best fruit goes into the wine.
It is then fermented in small batches, undergoes a rigorous oak regimen during fermentation and maturation, and spends some 18 months developing in barrel.
This attention to detail has made awards a common feature across the Bonnievale portfolio.
The NWC is in its 13th year, while the Cabernet Challenge launches this year and features a panel that includes well-known wine judge and commentator Carrie Adams and sommeliers Greg Mutambe and Janine van Zyl.
The wines produced by Bonnievale Winery are available countrywide and available for order from its online shop at www.bonnievalewines.co.za. The Limited Edition Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 sells for R171/bottle.
