BurnStar Technologies and C STAR Sign Letter of Intent to Supply Guilt-Free Hydrogen™ for CO2-to-Diesel Production Collaboration pairs BurnStar's low-carbon hydrogen with C STAR's proprietary technology to convert captured CO₂ into liquid hydrocarbon products, such as diesel and wax.

[Pretoria, South Africa, 2 September 2026] — BurnStar Technologies, the South African innovator behind Guilt-Free Hydrogen™, a proprietary turquoise hydrogen technology, is pleased to announce it has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with C STAR Holdings, a South African sustainable fuel startup, specialised in CO2-to-Fuel conversion, to supply low-carbon hydrogen as feedstock for C STAR's pilot plant, a containerised unit designed for the conversion of CO2-to-Diesel, currently being developed in Cape Town and is targeting first fuel in H1 2027.

Proposed collaboration

Under the proposed collaboration, BurnStar will supply hydrogen to C STAR's containerised pilot plant, which converts captured CO₂ and hydrogen into sustainable diesel with high value sustainable paraffin wax as a secondary product stream.

The framework is designed to scale alongside C STAR's CO2-to-Fuel plant development, with specific volumes, specifications and delivery schedules to be defined in a future Definitive Agreement.

“This collaboration is a natural extension of what Guilt-Free Hydrogen™ was built for — giving industrial partners a clean, cost-competitive hydrogen supply they can build real production around. Pairing our hydrogen with C STAR's CO2-to-Diesel process opens a credible route from captured CO₂ to drop-in liquid fuels, right here in South Africa.” — Dr Johan Brand, CEO of BurnStar Technologies

“BurnStar's hydrogen gives us a low-carbon feedstock we can rely on as we scale our CO₂-to-Fuel process. This LOI sets the foundation for a supply relationship that can grow with our plant, from CO2-to-Diesel pilot through to commercial-scale production of sustainable hydrocarbon fuels.” — Prof Nico Fischer, Director and Co-Founder of C STAR

Execution of the LOI

The LOI was signed by Dr Johan Brand on behalf of BurnStar and countersigned by Prof Nico Fischer on behalf of C STAR on 23 July 2026.

About BurnStar Technologies

BurnStar Technologies is a South African clean energy company producing Guilt-Free Hydrogen™ through its patented low-carbon hydrogen production technology. BurnStar partners with industrial and energy companies to deliver on-site, cost-competitive hydrogen without the logistical and infrastructural burden of conventional supply chains, supporting decarbonisation across mining, steel, chemicals and fuels.

About C STAR

C STAR Holdings (Pty) Ltd is a South African deep-tech company commercialising a proprietary CO2-to-Fuels process that converts captured CO2 and low-carbon hydrogen into drop-in synthetic diesel. Spun out from the University of Cape Town’s Catalysis Institute, C STAR was selected as a 2025 Breakthrough Energy Fellow, the first Africa-based company to join the programme. With support from the Fellowship, C STAR is currently scaling its technology into a containerised pilot plant to validate its integrated process chain ahead of commercial scale-up.
