Written by: Lola Lazarus Save to Instapaper
On 25 November 2024, the devastating news of the passing of Imran Vanker and his beloved daughter, Sara, in a tragic motor vehicle accident reached us. This loss is not only personal but also a significant one for South Africa, the global auditing profession, and humanity at large.
An Extraordinary Professional Journey
Imran was an extraordinary individual whose life exemplified excellence, humility, and service. After an outstanding academic career, he became a Chartered Accountant and achieved the remarkable milestone of becoming a partner at one of the Big Four firms before the age of thirty. This was a testament to his brilliance, relentless work ethic, and determination.
Imran further served as an Executive at the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA), where he played a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity of the auditing profession in South Africa. His influence extended globally as Chair of the United Nations Independent Audit Advisory Committee, where his commitment to ethical governance shaped policies with enduring impacts worldwide.
A Visionary Beyond Boundaries
Imran's career in auditing was not confined by its technical nature. Instead, he used his role to uplift others and contribute to humanity. Whether through thoughtful mentoring, meaningful conversations, or heartfelt greetings, he consistently touched lives in profound ways. His dedication to servant leadership and ethical principles stood out in a world often driven by self-interest and fleeting recognition.
A Legacy of Leadership and Humanity
Imran was more than a mentor—he was an uplifter of people. His ability to inspire, foster growth, and encourage development became a hallmark of his legacy. Known for his infectious smile and genuine happiness, he had a unique way of bringing light and positivity to any situation.
Through his work and his life, Imran imparted invaluable lessons about connection, kindness, and purpose. He lived to uplift and empower others, a mission he fulfilled with grace, humility, and unwavering commitment.
A Patriot and a Visionary
Imran was a proud South African, often seen wearing the South African flag on his lapel. The country has lost a patriot, a professional of unparalleled integrity, and a leader who exemplified servant leadership. The global community has lost a visionary whose contributions to ethical governance and auditing will leave a lasting legacy.
In Remembrance
To his grieving wife and family, we extend our deepest condolences and strength during this unimaginable time. May the memories of Imran and Sara be a source of comfort, reminding us all of the immense beauty and goodness they brought into the world. We remember them in our prayers: "Verily we belong to God and truly to Him shall we return."
