Since its establishment in 2022, the Salesian Institute Youth Projects' (SIYP) Stitch Ahead Sewing Programme has been dedicated to empowering women from disadvantaged backgrounds with essential hand and machine sewing skills. Today, we are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our journey towards self-sustainability and community impact.

Through our 3-month basic sewing course, marginilised women have gained the skills and confidence to pursue financial independence through self-employment or formal employment. The success stories emerging from our graduates serve as a testament to the transformative power of education and opportunity.

The most recent development in our programme marks a pivotal moment for our organization. Thanks to the unwavering support of our legacy partner, the Waterfront Rotary Club, we have reached a critical proof-of-concept stage for our micro-factory. This milestone represents a vital step forward in our mission to create a sustainable model that will foster growth and empowerment.

The micro-factory situated at the Salesian Institute Youth Projects facility in Green Point, plans to serve as a hub for potential employment and skill utilization, employing graduates of the Stitch Ahead Programme on an ad-hoc basis. By undertaking contracts such as the recent collaboration with the Waterfront Rotary Club, we not only contribute to our teaching programme's long-term sustainability but also provide valuable opportunities for economic advancement to our graduates.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Waterfront Rotary Club for their ongoing support and commitment to capacity development. Their collaboration has enabled us to secure our first contract, producing 300 drawstring bags for the upcoming Waterfront Canal Swim scheduled for April 6th. This partnership exemplifies the collective effort required to drive meaningful change and create a lasting impact within our communities.

Furthermore, SIYP would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to PSG Financial Services for their generous donation of industrial sewing machines, overlockers, and irons. Their contribution has been instrumental in realizing our vision for the micro-factory, providing essential resources and training to ensure its success.

As we embark on this exciting new chapter, we extend an open invitation to Cape Town's businesses and industries to consider utilizing our micro-factory resources for smaller-sized sewing projects.
