Swartland Show Moorreesburg celebrates 90 years with an event for the whole family

In the heart of the Swartland, the largest agricultural show in the Western and Southern Cape celebrates its 90th anniversary this year with an event for the whole family.

Swartland Show Moorreesburg will showcase the finest from this region to 20,000 visitors from Wednesday, 4 to Saturday, 7 September 2024. With AFGRI as the main sponsor, the show is renowned for its top-tier horses, cattle, sheep, and poultry, alongside a machinery exhibition valued at R230 million.

Experience the ‘cool’ of #Agri #Culture: From 8-team carriage horses to a sheep shearing battle

This year's show programme is packed with agricultural as well as lifestyle activities. The Swartland Show features the largest beef cattle show in the Western and Southern Cape, with around 400 animals competing for prestigious titles. A notable new addition is the Swartland Sheep Shearing Championships. Visitors can also look forward to the BKB & FNB Slaughter Lamb Competition, Merino Championships, the SA Meat Merino Super 10 Championships, and the IEC Interbreed Exhibition.

More than 400 horses will be on display, with the 8-team carriage horses being a standout attraction. Around 230 learners will participate in the Regional Youth Show, and the Western Cape Poultry Club will host a poultry exhibition.

Musicians Jay, Chris Else, Viljoen Retief, Dodo Nyoka, Jan Rhaap, and others will perform. The AFGRI Ladies' Day with Marciel Hopkins as the guest speaker and a roundtable session with Theo Vorster as the discussion leader promise to offer interesting experiences.

The little ones can enjoy a magician’s performance, a dance school, Lollos, and a supervised play park.

According to President Jacques Bester, the Swartland Show is a success thanks to the close cooperation between the community and businesses. "Come and experience the best of rural life and share in the 'cool' of agriculture," invites Bester.

Entry tickets will be available from Ticketpro and at the gates. Admission ranges from R50 to R150 per day, free for children under five, and R40 for children under 18, with discounts for pensioners.
