Umbono Conferences and Events successfully hosted the thought-provoking webinar “The New Frontiers of Privacy: AI, Data, and the Human Factor” on Thursday, 30 October 2025. The virtual session brought together leading experts from technology, law, and corporate governance to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the landscape of privacy, trust, and accountability.
The discussion centred on a vital question in today’s digital era: How can we innovate responsibly without losing the human touch?
Through engaging presentations and panel discussions, speakers unpacked key issues such as algorithmic bias, data protection compliance, ethical AI design, and the evolving role of human oversight in automated decision-making. Participants also reflected on South Africa’s regulatory progress and the global movement toward harmonized data governance frameworks.
“As AI becomes more embedded in everyday systems – from hiring to healthcare – our responsibility to protect data and uphold ethical principles grows even stronger,” noted the panel of speakers during the discussion.
The webinar formed part of Umbono’s pre-conference dialogue series leading up to the Data Privacy and Protection Conference 2026, taking place on 28–29 January 2026 in Fourways, South Africa. The upcoming conference will expand on many of the themes explored during the session, offering practical insights on compliance, technology, and trust in the digital economy.
A special thank you goes to all the speakers who shared their expertise and perspectives:
