Umbono Conferences & Events has officially opened Early Bird registration for the 2nd Annual Data Privacy & Protection Conference (DPPC27), taking place on 27–28 January 2027 at the Indaba Hotel, Fourways, Johannesburg.
Following the success of its inaugural edition, DPPC returns in 2027 with an expanded programme designed to address the increasingly complex relationship between data privacy, technology, artificial intelligence, regulation, cybersecurity and digital transformation across Africa.
The conference will take place during International Data Privacy Week under the theme:
“From Awareness to Action — Shaping Africa’s Trusted Digital Future.”
The theme reflects a growing need for organisations to move beyond simply understanding privacy obligations and towards implementing practical, sustainable approaches to data governance and protection.
Conference background
The inaugural Data Privacy & Protection Conference brought together industry experts, senior professionals and delegates from across the SADC region, creating a platform for meaningful conversations around the evolving data protection landscape.
DPPC27 will build on this foundation by bringing together privacy professionals, legal and compliance leaders, regulators, risk practitioners, technology specialists, information governance professionals and business executives to examine the challenges organisations face as data becomes increasingly central to business strategy.
The agenda has been designed to move beyond traditional discussions of compliance and explore the practical realities of protecting and governing data in a rapidly changing digital environment.
Programme focus
Key areas expected to feature on the 2027 programme include:
Artificial Intelligence, Privacy & Responsible Innovation
Data Governance & the Economics of Data
Data Breaches & Incident Response
PAIA & Information Governance
Privacy by Design & Technology
Data Privacy in Financial Services
Health, Insurance & Sensitive Data
Third-Party Risk & Privacy Assurance
SADC Data Protection in Practice
Participation and opportunities
Delegates will have the opportunity to hear directly from experienced practitioners and industry leaders, engage in panel discussions and interactive sessions, and explore practical approaches to some of the most pressing data protection challenges facing organisations today.
The conference will also provide opportunities for organisations operating in the privacy, technology, cybersecurity, risk, compliance and data solutions ecosystem to showcase their capabilities and engage directly with senior decision-makers.
