Six things to know about the JAECOO J7 SHS - power, efficiency, and innovation
Written by: Press Release Save to Instapaper
The JAECOO J7 Super Hybrid System (SHS) expands the J7 lineup with an advanced plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines strong performance with impressive efficiency.
Delivering a combined 255 kW and 525 N.m of torque through a smooth 3 DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission), the J7 SHS offers confident performance while maintaining excellent fuel economy.
Its 18.3 kWh battery enables an all-electric range of up to 90 km (WLTP) and contributes to a total driving range of approximately 1,200 km, making it a versatile electrified crossover for both daily driving and longer journeys.
Power Meets Efficiency, Performance Without The Trade-Off
The new JAECOO J7 Super Hybrid System, redefines the concept of a crossover SUV.
Thanks to its advanced plug-in hybrid technology, it proves that customers don’t have to sacrifice performance for efficiency.
A turbocharged 1.5-litre engine is supported by an electric motor, delivering respectable combined outputs of 255 kW and 525 N.m of torque.
Power is channelled to the drive wheels via a smooth-shifting DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission), resulting in a refined yet punchy and highly efficient powertrain.
An 18.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack powers the electric motor, which has a WLTP-estimated all-electric range of 90 km—significantly higher than some of the SHS options currently offered in South Africa.
Overall, the J7 SHS has a combined range of 1,200 km.
When plugged into a DC fast charger, the J7 SHS’s battery can be recharged from 30-80% in 20 minutes.
Standard Features
Like the ICE-powered J7, the J7 SHS is packed with luxury features.
These include heated, ventilated, and electrically adjustable front seats (with a memory setting for the driver), a multifunction steering wheel, and dual-zone climate control.
A panoramic sunroof, acoustic front glass, ambient lighting, and more are also standard on the J7 SHS.
Technology And Infotainment
The J7 lineup is known for its segment-defying technology and advanced infotainment, and the SHS derivative is no exception.
At the heart of its minimalist cabin is a 14.8-inch touchscreen, offering an intuitive interface for seamless control of vehicle functions.
Wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth connectivity ensure effortless smartphone integration.
A premium eight-speaker Sony sound system enhances the in-car audio experience, while a wireless charger keeps devices powered on the go.
The 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster delivers crisp, easily readable driving data, complemented by a head-up display for added convenience.
Built-in satellite navigation helps drivers stay on course, while an integrated dash cam provides extra peace of mind on the road.
Practicality And Convenience
The J7 SHS has been designed for adventurers with one eye on the environment.
As such, it has been designed to accommodate various lifestyles.
The boot, for example, can swallow up to 412 litres of luggage.
However, with the rear bench folded flat, this increases to a cavernous 1,335 litres.
Aside from that, the J7 SHS has several useful storage areas on board, including a cooled storage compartment underneath the front armrest.
Other convenience features include a tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a rear centre armrest, and electrically folding side mirrors.
The cabin has four USB ports, two for the front and rear rows, respectively.
Safety And Security
Drivers would be hard-pressed to find a safety feature that doesn’t come standard on the J7 SHS.
Aside from the usual safety features, such as ISOFIX anchorages and dual front, front side, driver’s knee, side curtain, and front-centre airbags, the electrified SUV is equipped with the latest driver assistance features, including:
Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
Integrated Cruise Assist (ICA)
Blind-Spot Detection (BSD)
Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK)
Rear Cross-Traffic Assist (RCTA) with braking
Driver Monitoring System (DMS)
Traffic Jam Assist (TJA)
Apart from the aforementioned driver assists, the J7 SHS also receives several valuable features designed to keep occupants and other road users safe.
This includes the 540-degree panoramic camera, door opening warning (alerts occupants to an oncoming car or cyclist), and child detection (vital sign detection), which ensures a young child isn’t left unattended in a parked vehicle.
Exterior Design
The J7 is designed to make a statement, combining bold styling with advanced features.
Its striking exterior is defined by an imposing grille with horizontal lines, proudly showcasing the JAECOO badge.
Standard LED lighting, including front and rear fog lamps, ensures excellent visibility, while red-painted brake callipers add a sporty edge.
Flush-fitting, electrically retractable door handles enhance aerodynamics, complementing the J7’s sleek profile.
Riding on 19-inch wheels, this SUV blends sophistication with a commanding presence.
