Things You Didn’t Know About the New OMODA C5 X Series
Written by: Press Release Save to Instapaper
The OMODA C5 X Series forms part of the brand’s evolving compact crossover lineup, building on the established C5 platform with updated design elements and enhanced drivetrain technology. Comprising the Style X, Lux X, and Elegance X derivatives, the X Series reflects the latest refinement of the C5 range within the broader OMODA portfolio.
Exterior Design
The OMODA C5 X Series is based on the familiar C5 that has become popular with South African motorists. However, OMODA designers have made several revisions to the new Lux X and Elegance X models, with a sleeker and more sophisticated front end.
The updates found on the revised C5 include a new front bumper with a refined diamond matrix grille and sleeker daytime running lights (DRLs). The headlights have also been refined for a more contemporary appearance. OMODA has also introduced a new black-painted 18-inch wheel design for the Lux X and Elegance X grades.
Apart from these revisions, the Lux X and Elegance X retain the C5’s coupé-inspired roofline, which gives the crossover a sleek and sporty look. The defined rear styling provides the C5 with an athletic stance while accentuating its width. The Elegance X receives red-painted brake calipers to set it apart from the Lux X.
Performance And Efficiency
The C5 X Series is powered by the familiar 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, also found in the C5 Elegance and Lux models. With 115 kW and 230 N.m of torque, it delivers strong performance.
The X Series update introduces a smooth and efficient dual-clutch transmission that enhances performance and fuel efficiency. The 0-100 km/h sprint time has improved by 0.9 seconds, now taking just nine seconds, while fuel efficiency drops from 7.4L/100 km to 6.9L/100 km.
Ventilated front brake discs and rear brake discs provide the C5 X Series with strong stopping power, while the 169 mm of ground clearance ensures it can easily handle gravel roads and muddy paths, offering impressive versatility for everyday driving.
OMODA engineers have worked to improve the comfort and drivability of the C5. The torsion beam rear suspension has been replaced with a sophisticated multi-link setup that enhances driveability and road comfort. Body roll has also been reduced for greater stability during cornering.
The C5 X Series also features an additional drive mode, with drivers now able to choose from the following modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport.
Practicality
Despite the compact exterior dimensions, the C5 X Series is deceptively spacious, with a large boot and cargo area. The X Series improves upon the outgoing model’s boot space, with 442 litres of luggage space behind the second row of seats. This is significantly more spacious than the outgoing Lux and Elegance trims, which offer 378 litres of packing space behind the rear bench.
By collapsing the 60/40 split-folding rear seats, up to 1,149 litres of cargo room is up for grabs - an improvement of 74 litres. This increase in boot space has been achieved with clever packaging and design, as the C5 X Series retains the spacious 2,630 mm wheelbase of the outgoing model.
The Lux X and Elegance X have a power-operated tailgate and 12-volt power sockets in the front row and trunk. Other practical features include follow-me-home lamps and a push-button start.
Standard Features
The OMODA C5 Lux X and Elegance X are generously equipped with the latest convenience and luxury features. This includes black leather upholstery, power adjustment for the driver and front passenger sports seats, and a leather-trimmed multi-function steering wheel.
Dual-zone climate control is standard, along with LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera. The Elegance X adds ventilated front seats to the package, along with acoustic laminated glass for the front row.
Technology
The C5 Lux X and Elegance X boast all the technological features the modern driver expects from a premium crossover. Both variants are equipped with dual 10.25-inch screens, one of which is situated in front of the driver and relays important information.
The other is used to navigate the various vehicle functions, including the wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, and other vehicle settings.
Whereas the Lux X receives a six-speaker audio system, the range-topping Elegance X is fitted with an eight-speaker Sony sound system that delivers a supreme listening experience.
A welcome update to the X Series models includes a 50-watt wireless charging pad with ventilation, replacing the 15-watt charging pad offered on the outgoing Lux and Elegance trims.
Other tech features found on the Lux X and Elegance X grades include a multicolour ambient lighting system with a dance function, automatic headlights, and more.
Safety
On the safety front, the C5 Lux and Elegance X continue to impress with strong equipment levels and driver assistance features.
The following features are standard on both trims:
Blind Spot Detection (BSD)
Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA)
The Elegance X builds on this with additional driver assistance technology, such as:
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
Integrated Cruise Assist (ICA)
Lane Departure Prevention (LDP)
Traffic Assist (TJA)
Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK)
Forward Vehicle Departure Reminder
Passive safety features include dual front, front side, and side curtain airbags, ISOFIX anchorages and a front-row seatbelt reminder. The Elegance X adds a second-row seatbelt reminder.
Service And Warranty
The C5 X Series provides owners with peace of mind, thanks to its industry-leading one-million km/10-year engine warranty (exclusive to the first owner), a five-year/150,000 km factory warranty, and a five-year/70,000 km service plan as part of the price.
