Launch your tourism career
Submitted by: EmmaThe University of Cape Town and GetSmarter, South Africa’s leading online educator, are proud to announce the launch of the UCT Tourism Management course. The 10-week part-time course covers every aspect of successfully managing a tourism business in South Africa, with a strong focus on local trends and tactics. The course starts on 2 April 2012 and is presented entirely online through GetSmarter’s innovative online learning platform.
After the rush of 2010 and the economic downturn in 2011, the tourism industry in South Africa has seen a bit of a slump. Accommodation establishments, restaurants and attractions have closed, partly due to unfavourable conditions, an also in part because of mismanagement and lack of skills. Now the tourism industry is recovering slowly and the government is putting a lot of emphasis on promoting and supporting tourism businesses – it’s an excellent time to get involved and start or manage your own tourism company.
The UCT Tourism Management course is intended for current and aspiring tourism business owners or managers who want to boost their skills and improve the way their business runs. If you have ever dreamed of working in the exciting and multifaceted world of tourism, this course will give you the necessary grounding and fundamental knowledge you need, both on the industry itself and on managing a business.
GetSmarter’s advanced and user-friendly learning model provides students with a personal and professional educational experience. Students work through the course material together and receive continuous academic and administrative assistance during the course. Each of the 10 modules includes comprehensive and up-to-date course notes, discussion forums where students interact with one another, an interactive quiz and video lectures to make the course material more engaging.
