Upgraded East Gate Boosts Access to Clifftop Exclusive Safari Hideaway

Entry into the breathtaking cliffs of the Welgevonden Private Game Reserve has become quicker, smoother, and more convenient than ever. The official re-opening of the East Gate close to Clifftop Exclusive Safari Hideaway on 27 June marks a major upgrade in access for local and international guests, substantially cutting travel time from Johannesburg and eliminating the need for scheduled transfers.
Nestled in the malaria-free UNESCO Waterberg Biosphere, Clifftop Exclusive Safari Hideaway is renowned for its elevated setting, spectacular views, and world-class hospitality. With just eight luxury suites, each offering a private plunge pool, sweeping wilderness vistas, and personalised butler service, Clifftop has become a preferred retreat for honeymooners, safari enthusiasts and global explorers.
The East Gate is one of four official access points into Welgevonden Private Game Reserve, managed and maintained by the Welgevonden Game Reserve team.
However, earlier this year, the Waterberg region – like many across Southern Africa – faced a sharp reminder of climate change’s growing impact. Severe rains and widespread flooding disrupted road infrastructure and access routes, posing challenges for travel logistics and emergency response in several key conservation areas.
“This region isn’t immune to the increasing volatility we’re seeing across Southern Africa due to climate change,” says Maralize Mulder, Marketing Manager at Extraordinary. “Heavy flooding earlier this year challenged our existing access points, so the repairing and upgrading was not just for convenience, but for long-term resilience.”
Future-ready travel access, built for guest comfort
Extraordinary are ecstatic with the completion of the repair and upgrade to the East Gate access road. This not only ensures that the guest experience will not be affected from seasonal disruptions but also aligns with the group’s ongoing commitment to future-proofing its safari offerings in an era of environmental uncertainty.
The repaired and upgraded East Gate access road will be especially beneficial for all of whom will appreciate the seamless transition from city to bush. The gate is now fully operational and available for direct access via self-drive or private road transfers, with full details and route maps provided on confirmation.
