5-star Hotel Izulu, regarded as one of the most eco-aware hotels in South Africa has implemented further eco-initiatives which add to its existing long list of ‘eco-credits’ by introducing new energy monitoring procedures, recycled paper for all its stationary as well as eco-friendly laundry and cleaning products. Also on the ‘to do’ list is taking the light bulbs a step further and installing LEDs throughout the Hotel as well as replacing the water heating systems in the geysers and Jacuzzis with special heat pumps. This will be shortly followed by an energy efficient temperature control system through the Hotel Suites.
All the paper used throughout the Hotel’s stationary are all now on recycled paper. The Hotel has also put online procedures in place to monitor the energy utilisation on a daily basis by means of a wireless remote meter. Eco-friendly laundry detergents and cleaning products have proven to be a success and helped to move away from the harsh chemicals generally used in the hospitality industry. By doing so, Hotel Izulu lessens the amount of chemicals going into the water system.
Comments Managing Director, Grant Pringle: “We’ve certainly noticed that more and more guests, when booking, ask for our eco credentials and this we believe is not a trend but a lifestyle choice. We’ve been ‘turning green’ since 2009 and we continuously strive to do more over time. These initiatives certainly enhance our existing 5-star offering.”
These new initiatives enhance the Hotel’s existing eco initiatives which include using organic produce in Gigi’s Brasserie, the organic herb and vegetable garden, energy efficient light bulbs, eco-friendly showerheads installed in all the bathrooms as well as using natural and organic products in the award-winning Impilo Spa.
