Blok Partners With The Cobra Mountain Protection Team to Protect Cape Town’s Mountain Trails

Introducing The Cobras Mountain Protection Team. A privately funded initiative dedicated to creating safer mountain experiences for both locals and tourists in Cape Town has recently launched in partnership with City Bowl and Atlantic Seaboard businesses, including property developer Blok, and private individuals.
Dedicated guards are now actively patrolling routes around Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, and Camps Bay, ensuring the security of these iconic natural spaces.
The Cobras have completed their first two months of activity, and it is great to report that there have been zero violent crime incidents on the routes they patrol, an indication of their presence being a deterrence.
The guards have also reported a noticeable increase in mountain foot traffic on their routes, which promotes a renewed confidence in the public and the neighbourhood.
“Cape Town’s unique offering of world-class outdoor spaces is a treasure that we are committed to safeguarding as part of our ongoing urban interventions,” says Jacques van Embden, CEO of Blok. “By increasing the presence of patrols, together with The Cobra Mountain Protection Team, we aim to enhance the safety of everyone enjoying these beautiful trails.”
“We are very proud that The Cobra’s Mountain Protection Team initiative is live and securing these patrol routes,” adds Marc Sternberg from The Cobras management committee. “The objectives are to restore confidence in the mountain for mountain-goers and to act as a deterrent for would-be criminals. Residents and visitors to Cape Town should enjoy our beautiful mountain securely and with peace of mind.”
Blok is proud to support this vital initiative and contribute to the safety and enjoyment of Cape Town’s treasured outdoor spaces, alongside Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront, Latitude Aparthotels, Timeless Africa Safaris, The Clarendon Boutique Hotel, HCI Foundation, Home Suite Hotels, and Newmark Hotels and Reserves.
Next time you’re out for a run or mountain bike ride, be sure to greet the friendly faces of The Cobras Mountain Protection Team.
