Abalimi Grows with Relais & Châteaux

Submitted by: The P.R Team Save to Instapaper

The Africa delegation of the Relais & Châteaux Association has over several months collected countless packets of much needed vegetable seeds from the 22 member properties and donated them to the Abalimi Bezekhaya organisation, which works in the townships of Khayelitsha, Nyanga and surrounding areas near Cape Town.

Relais & Châteaux formed this partnership with Abalimi two years ago with the sole intension to support the organisation that in turns supports the local community by creating multiple vegetable gardens.

The produce grown at the various gardens is distributed to the underprivileged and creates a self sufficient way of supporting the worker's immediate family while at the same time raising vital funds by selling the produce via Abalimi's Harvest of Hope pack shed www.harvestofhope.co.za that delivers vegetable boxes to members throughout Cape Town.

"Each time we go to Abalimi it is so rewarding and humbling to realise that by simply donating seeds we can all improve many people's wellbeing in many ways. The ripple effects are truly incredible. Through the expertise of Abalimi the seeds will be distributed to hundreds of micro-farmers in approximately 100 community gardens in the Khayelitsha and Nyanga areas and surrounds. " comments Annie-Claude Bergonzoli, Director of Relais & Châteaux.

Abalimi continues to educate and inform local communities on how to develop their own vegetable gardens and walks each and every step of the way with the community members while giving workshops, offering tips and advice, training and raising funds for further vegetable gardens around Cape Town.
