Today, Uganda’s Health Minister, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, officially declared the country free of Ebola, closing the chapter on the 2026 outbreak of Bundibugyo virus disease. After intensive nationwide surveillance and zero new cases detected, Uganda stands ready to welcome visitors once again to its misty forests, vast savannahs, and warm communities.

The 2026 outbreak, declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organization in May, saw limited cases in Uganda - primarily linked to travel from the Democratic Republic of Congo - contained without community transmission. Uganda’s swift action, contact tracing, and enhanced surveillance have brought the country to this clear declaration.
