Home to Africa Ready to Welcoms the World Back With Uganda Officially Declared Ebola-Free

Today, Uganda’s Health Minister, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, officially declared the country free of Ebola, closing the chapter on the 2026 outbreak of Bundibugyo virus disease. After intensive nationwide surveillance and zero new cases detected, Uganda stands ready to welcome visitors once again to its misty forests, vast savannahs, and warm communities.

Home to Africa, the 100% locally owned East African safari specialist, celebrates this hard-won milestone alongside the people of Uganda. We are ready to host travellers from around the world with the same seamless care, deep local knowledge, and personal touch that define every journey we craft.

“This is a moment of quiet pride and open arms,” said Aryanyijuka Elias, Founder & Managing Director of Home to Africa. “Uganda has shown the world how vigilance, community strength, and rapid response can protect both people and the places we love. Now we invite travellers to discover East Africa through local eyes - safely, responsibly, and on their own terms.”

Outbreak response and declaration

The 2026 outbreak, declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organization in May, saw limited cases in Uganda - primarily linked to travel from the Democratic Republic of Congo - contained without community transmission. Uganda’s swift action, contact tracing, and enhanced surveillance have brought the country to this clear declaration.

East Africa is open, and Home to Africa is ready.

Our team continues to design fully tailor-made safaris across Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania - journeys shaped around each traveller's pace, passions, and budget. Whether you dream of standing in the damp, cool shade of Bwindi’s canopy as mountain gorillas move through the undergrowth, watching tree-climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth National Park, or crossing into the Serengeti and Maasai Mara for the Great Migration, we handle every detail with local mastery and a 60-minute response guarantee on every enquiry.

A portion of every booking continues to support local communities and wildlife conservation through our Give Back Initiative, because responsible travel is how we protect the home we share with guests.
