Destination Swakopmund - things to do in and around BON Hotel Swakopmund

BON Hotel Swakopmund opened its doors to the public on 7 December 2015 to a full house!  Situated alongside the coastline, just minutes from the CBD, the hotel has much to offer on site and in the area, so whether you are staying for a few days with the family, on business for a night, there on conference or looking for adventure, Swakopmund won’t disappoint.

BON Hotels are aggressive in promoting their hotels as destinations – the website has dedicated pages for things to do and information about the area, and if you have a few minutes you can read their blog with useful travel tips and other interesting titbits. Their web-based mobile application, BONNY, also allows you to view all activities on site and in the surrounds - you can even order room service!    Recently appointed General Manager, Dean van Rooyen says the hotel is well positioned to become a premiere Swakopmund accommodation location, catering for sport groups and the leisure, corporate and conference markets.  “Its location within The Dome, a multi-functional indoor sports and conference centre, as well as close proximity to the CBD, Namibian coastline and desert, together with the incredible facilities and amenities, is a big drawcard for any traveller.”

AT THE HOTEL

RETAIL THERAPY OR A HAIRDO The hotel’s lower levels house various retail outlets - of the many businesses located there, guests can make a hair appointment, book a trip, stock up on supplements and grab a bite.

TRAVEL AGENCY You’ll probably feel like extending your stay and enjoying Swakopmund for a few more days. Rennies Travel is also on the lower level and will assist with any accommodation bookings, travel advice or flight queries. Swakopmund is Namibia’s main seaside resort that appears like a beautiful, welcoming oasis. With a village packed with shops and coffee shops, restaurants, antiques and a heap of outdoor activities, the charm of this beautiful town will have you coming back for more.

THE OCEAN Swakopmund is Namibia’s most popular holiday destination - a beach resort, surrounded by the Namib Desert on three sides; a beautiful setting with plenty to do. Attractions like surfing, kite surfing, fishing and adventure sports are on offer at every turn. If you are a keen angler, you’d be happy to know that you can take your 4x4 straight to the beach and choose your spot for the day. Enjoy a day at the beach where wide–open, clean white sands await you.  Surfers and kite surfers will be happy to know that Walvis Bay is probably one of the best spots for the pro’s kite surfing, and surfing in Swakop is known to be legendary!

THE SAND Adrenaline junkies flock to Swakopmund, simply because there is so much adventure waiting. If you are not surfing the waves, another popular rush is surfing the dunes. Sandboarding, quad biking, paintballing, you name it…

THE SKY Ahhh, you have to take a scenic flight to take in the view of the contrasting Namib Desert and Atlantic Ocean. Or, tick off your bucket list and Skydive Swakop.

EATING OUT and of course, THE BEER Swakop is steeped in German history as it became the main port for imports and exports between Germany and South-West Africa. The connection with Germany has remained strong, and you will be spoilt with some of the best German cuisine this side of München and of course, where there’s Bratwurst, there’s BEER.

OUR PICK OF RESTAURANTS IN THE AREA At The Dome Restaurant, of course and Toulmin's for the best breakfast in town and light meals throughout the day. Kucki’s Pub – well-known for their fabulous pub; great seafood, and steak too! The Tug Restaurant – lovely for balmy weather as there’s a deck overlooking the ocean. Superb seafood! Jetty 1905 – just go for the amazing setting on the pier – fantastic sushi! Garnish – for great Indian (and vegetarian). Swakopmund Brewery at The Strand Hotel – for the beer and the atmosphere. It specialises in Namibian, German and other meat dishes and features its own “craft” beer and on site Micro-brewery. Ocean Cellar – also at The Strand Hotel. Fresh oysters and delicious seafood. The Deli – Strand Hotel – sea-facing terrace that’s great for breakfast or coffee and cake.

Don’t be surprised if Swakopmund creeps into your heart, like no other place.
