Mozambique Announces Pemba Airport Modernisation To Boost Safety Capacity And Regional Air Operations

Aeroportos de Moçambique (AdM) announced plans to invest US$43,5 million (R741m) into the expansion and modernisation of Pemba Airport in Cabo Delgado.

According to Club of Mozambique, Cabo Delgado AdM Director, Eduardo Mutereda, briefed state representatives on the proposed upgrade, which will include an expansion of the airport’s terminal, runway and apron, the construction of a new power station and water supply system, the remodelling of the on-site fire station and improvements to lighting, drainage systems and the airport’s perimeters.

“Due to the problems related to the extension of the runway and its apron, the neighbouring airports of Nacala-Porto and Nampula have been resorted to for landing and parking aircraft,” said Mutereda.

ADM is currently in the process of identifying partners and raising funds to implement the project, he Mutereda.
