Good Hope Fm's 'keep Cape Town Warm' Returns

Good Hope FM says that for the past 15 years, this initiative has been a growing beacon of hope for the vulnerable, collecting thousands of blankets and non-perishable food items annually to support those living in the cold. This year, with Community Chest contributing R97 000 to the campaign and Good Hope FM expanding its reach into previously unvisited areas, the station is more committed to making a meaningful impact across Cape Town.
In 2024, Capetonians donated over 5 000 non-perishable food items, 1 400 single blankets and 47 bags of second-hand clothing. The radio station says this year's targets are even bigger: 6 000+ food items, 2 000 blankets and a significant increase in monetary donations to help punch a proper hole in the cold. All donations will be distributed weekly via Community Chest's network of trusted NGOs to ensure swift, direct support where it's needed most.
Good Hope FM says monetary donations can be made safely through the Community Chest's online portal. Donations of new blankets and non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the Good Hope FM studios at 209 Beach Road, Sea Point, or at any of the following outside broadcasts:
- Wednesday, 30 April 06:00 to 09:00 Constantia Waldorf School, Spaanschemat River Road, Constantia
- Wednesday, 7 May 06:00 to 09:00 Kronendal Primary School, 10 Andrews Road, Hout Bay
- Thursday, 22 May 06:00 to 09:00 Blouberg Ridge Primary School, Table View
- Wednesday, 28 May 06:00 to 09:00 Temperance Town Primary School, Gordons Bay
- Wednesday, 4 June 06:00 to 09:00 La Rochelle Girls' Primary, Paarl
- Saturday, 21 June 09:00 to 12:00 Community Chest Offices, 892 Bree Street
"For us at Good Hope FM, this is personal. We're not just sending hopeful thoughts and wishes, we're doing something practical and saving lives," says Masi Mdingane, Business Manager for Good Hope FM and 5FM. "These are our listeners, our communities. We're showing up where it matters most — on the ground, in the cold, for the people who need us. We urge individuals, families, schools, businesses and celebrity friends of the station to show up too — even challenging others on social media. Donate what you can. Every blanket, every tin of food, every rand counts."
Community Chest CEO, Peter Heeger, says, "We are grateful to continue as the official distribution partner of Good Hope FM's 'Keep Cape Town Warm' campaign for the 15th consecutive year. We are especially excited to be working with Roger Goode, the breakfast team and the new Good Hope FM lineup. Following the incredible success of the 2024 campaign, where we helped 41 NGOs across the Western Cape, we are eager to build on this momentum. This year, we look forward to surpassing these achievements and setting new records."
Good Hope FM concludes by encouraging Capetonians to donate, share and challenge friends, family and co-workers to match or beat their contributions using the hashtag #GoodHopeFMKCTW25. Together, we can keep Cape Town warm — one blanket, one meal, one donation, one life saved at a time.
