The Western Cape team, made up of both able-bodied and differently-abled athletes, delivered an outstanding performance under challenging weather conditions, securing a total of 21 gold, nine silver and three bronze medals. Athletes had to contend with the full range of Cape Town weather over the three days, yet this did not deter their spirit or performance on the track and field.
Their resilience and determination ultimately saw the province emerge as the top-performing team at the national event. According to CoSACSA Western Cape Chair, Shentayne van Heerden: “We are extremely proud of the students who had to deal with severe weather conditions during the championship.
Despite this, their performances were exceptional, and they have once again demonstrated that the Western Cape is a leading province in sport, arts and culture.” The event highlights the important role that sport plays within the TVET sector, contributing to holistic student development, promoting inclusion and providing a platform for young talent to excel at a national level.
The province will now begin preparations for the upcoming national Arts Festival, where students will continue to showcase their talents beyond the sporting arena. This achievement presents a strong opportunity to highlight the Western Cape’s ongoing commitment to youth development, education and excellence across both sport and the creative sectors.
