Devi Sankaree Govender Ends Six-Year Run of The Devi Show on eNCA and e.tv, Promises New Storytelling Direction
Hosted by Govender since its launch in 2020, in the middle of Covid, The Devi Show has become a familiar fixture in South African investigative television, tackling consumer complaints, exposing alleged financial misconduct and holding those accused of wrongdoing to account.
Through hundreds of investigations, numerous awards and years of compelling storytelling, the programme has built a legacy that extends well beyond Sunday-night television.
Mission accomplished!” says Govender. “Six years ago, we set out to expose wrongdoing, ask the uncomfortable questions and stand up for people who deserved answers.
“I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved. But I have never been someone who stands still for very long and I am so looking forward to what comes next.”
Changing media landscape
Now, Govender is looking ahead.
“The way we consume media has changed. People engage with stories differently, have conversations in real time, and connect directly with the people who make content. I want to be part of that evolution.”
For Govender, this next chapter offers an opportunity to explore new storytelling and expand her creative horizons beyond the traditional television format.
“I have spent much of my career telling stories through television, and I have loved it. But I am also curious about what else is possible and perhaps show audiences a few sides of me they have not seen before.”
Bold decisions
The move marks another significant milestone in a broadcasting career defined by bold decisions.
In 2020, after 18 years with Carte Blanche, Govender embarked on a new journey with eMedia Investments, launching The Devi Show and establishing a platform dedicated to investigative journalism and consumer advocacy.
She credits that partnership as an important ingredient of the programme’s success.
An important partnership
“My journey with eMedia has been extraordinary. They believed in the vision, supported the work and gave us the editorial freedom to pursue stories that mattered. I am deeply grateful for that partnership and incredibly proud of what we created together.”
What next
As for what comes next, Govender is holding her cards very closely.
“But I can share this - I am certainly not done asking questions! My passion for accountability and telling stories that matter is solidly sewn into my DNA. What is changing is how I get to explore that passion and I am looking forward to taking people along for the ride.”
She also has a message for viewers who have supported her over the years.
“To everyone who welcomed us into their homes every Sunday, shared their stories, trusted us and cheered us on, thank you.
“You made this journey a success and I invite you to join me for the next one.
“Keep watching the digital archives and stay tuned for where I show up next. The studio lights might be changing, but the heat is definitely staying on.”
The more than 300 episodes of The Devi Show will remain freely accessible through e.tv’s and Devi’s official YouTube channels, allowing audiences to revisit investigations, share important stories and continue engaging with the programme’s work.
