Club Med South Africa Sets Booking Launch for Beach and Safari Resort Opening Next Year
Written by: TNW Save to InstapaperBookings for the first Club Med resort in South Africa, the Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari, will open in October.
Set to open in a year’s time, the beach resort is located on the Dolphin Coast, while Mpilo Safari Lodge, which will offer Club Med a bush experience, will be situated in Zululand.
Beach resort
Located 30 minutes from King Shaka International Airport and less than an hour from the city of Durban, the new Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari is housed on 32 hectares, with the surrounding landscape comprising a mix of dunes, coastal forests and pristine beaches.
Designed by the South African architecture firm, Craft of Architecture, the resort’s modern styling merges with the natural landscape. The interiors are adorned with a natural coastal palette and incorporate locally produced art and furnishings.
One section of the 411-room beach resort will feature 310 Superior and 35 Deluxe rooms, while the private Exclusive Collection Ilanga section will have 66 suites for a more intimate holiday experience. The rooms are being constructed around terraces opening on to tropical gardens and four pools – the main pool in the middle of the village, a Zen pool for adults, a family pool area and an exclusive pool in the Exclusive Collection Ilanga section.
Dining options will include two restaurants and two bars: the Oceana, for international cuisine; the Nguni Gourmet Club for a refined dining experience featuring South African seafood and local produce; Injabulo, the Resort’s main bar and coffee shop for gourmet snacks and tasty treats at any time of day; and the ocean-facing Dunes Beach Bar, which will serve cocktails in a laid-back setting.
Safari experience
For the first time, Club Med will give holidaymakers a chance to discover South Africa’s flora and fauna at Mpilo Safari Lodge, a private game reserve exclusively for Club Med guests, aged four years and up.
Located a 45-minute flight, or four-and-a-half-hour drive, from the beach resort, the 18 000-hectare reserve is one of the largest in KwaZulu-Natal.
Every day, guided safaris, accompanied by experienced rangers, head out in search of the Big Five in their natural habitat. A special safari for families with small children will also be offered.
The lodge will accommodate couples and families in 75 premium tents, appointed with all the comforts and conveniences of a Club Med experience: panoramic views, a swimming pool in the adult lounge area, a restaurant, a supervised children’s zone with water games and family-friendly play areas.
The lodge can be booked ‘à la carte’, as the experience is not part of the all-inclusive package. A minimum stay of five nights at Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari is required to book a stay at Mpilo Safari Lodge.
