THE EARTH’S ESSENCE STORY

The Earth’s Essence story began in 2010 on a boutique Stellenbosch wine farm, when, after a long day in the Audacia cellar, Trevor Strydom’s daughter offered him a cup of rooibos tea. That simple gesture sparked an audacious idea:

Could the powerful antioxidants found in rooibos—long known for its health benefits—be used to preserve wine, replacing the need to add sulphur dioxide as a preservative? The answer would change everything.

Over 14 years of intensive research and development into the use of antioxidants in rooibos and honeybush followed, culminating in a patented innovation process that has redefined how alcoholic beverages can be preserved—naturally.

The result was a world-first breakthrough innovation: a range of delicious, naturally preserved wine, beer, and cider, made with rooibos and honeybush antioxidants—pure, authentic, and proudly South African.

Trevor acknowledges that nothing would have been possible without the critical support received over the years from various people, Government bodies, Stellenbosch University, Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), the rooibos community, and the Checkers senior management team.
