"INMA envisions two core challenges for news media in Africa: access to training and identifying and retaining young professional talent," says Earl J. Wilkinson, Executive Director and CEO of INMA. "INMA's Africa Advisory Board has created this agenda to meet these needs in the year ahead."
Since 2020, INMA says it has conducted free virtual summits and webinars that have attracted more than 3 000 media professionals from throughout Africa.
According to INMA, the Elevate Africa Initiative will feature four free virtual summits:
- Newsroom Transformation: Thursday, 27 March
- Media Revenue: Thursday, 31 July
- Product & Tech: Thursday, 11 September
- Audience Development: Thursday, 4 December
Another part of the initiative is the Africa Elevate Scholarship, which aims to accelerate careers and foster community through mentorship of high-potential young professionals from news media companies in Africa. INMA says that the deadline to apply for the scholarship is Wednesday, 16 April.
INMA concludes that the initiative will also feature the Africa Emerging Leaders initiative, which aims to identify and reward the next generation of news media leaders in Africa. The deadline to apply is Friday, 3 October.
