Southern Sun has confirmed that it will operate a new four-star hotel at the R5 billion Oceans Umhlanga multi-purpose development.
Southern Sun Group CEO, Marcel von Aulock, told Moneyweb that it had secured its deal with the Oceans Umhlanga developer, Vivian Reddy, to place its new Southern Sun Hotel & Residences Oceans Umhlanga in the development’s South Tower.
The Oceans Umhlanga is already home to a five-star Radisson Hotel, luxury apartments, and the high-end Oceans Mall in its completed North Tower. Oceans Umhlanga’s final South Tower is expected to be complete in late 2027.
Von Aulock said the hotel would have about 200 rooms and 80 residences.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Oceans Umhlanga in this ground-breaking development. Southern Sun is not just going to be operating the hotel in the South Tower; the group is investing an equity stake in the tower and will be part of the management of the hotel and residences,” said Von Aulock.
“The Southern Sun Hotel & Residences Oceans Umhlanga represents a new opportunity for us to both increase our capacity in the vibrant Umhlanga Rocks area, as well as enter a new market for quality serviced apartments that cater for both short- and longer-stay guests. It marks the group’s first foray into the branded hotel residences and apartments space.”
