It’s part of a broader shift across the continent, where Africa’s social impact economy is now worth an estimated $96bn annually and supports 12 million jobs.
From water-saving technologies tackling critical shortages to circular waste solutions and eco-conscious fashion brands, South Africans are proving that sustainability isn’t just good for the planet, it’s smart business.
Eco-Logic Awards 2026
This momentum forms the backdrop for the Eco-Logic Awards 2026, which officially opens for entries this month, inviting the country’s eco-champions to step forward to be recognised and rewarded.
Now in its 15th year, the Eco-Logic Awards has grown a platform celebrating sustainability and eco-innovation, backed over the years by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment and a host of leading corporate brands.
“There is a real and tangible appetite in South Africa for practical, creative solutions to today’s environmental challenges, and for recognising and supporting the people behind them. The Eco-Logic Awards plays a critical role in amplifying these efforts, showcasing what’s possible and inspiring others to act. Over the past 15 years, the Eco-Logic Awards have grown in scope and scale of influence, and that staying power speaks volumes, reflecting a growing need for effective solutions that prioritise both people and planet,” says David Parry-Davies, founder of the Eco-Logic Awards and editor of The Enviropaedia.
The rise of SA’s "Green Economy"
If last year’s winners are anything to go by, entrants can expect an inspiring spectrum of ingenuity and competition.
Among some of the standout winners of the 2025 awards was Pure Flow Amanzi, which took silver for its simple yet transformative gravity-fed water filtration system. Designed for rural and underserved communities, it removes harmful bacteria and delivers safe drinking water instantly without the need for electricity, chemicals or boiling.
On the creative front, brands like Up-Cycled Cloth Collective proved that sustainability and style can go hand in hand. Taking home gold, the brand is reimagining fashion by turning unwanted textiles into beautiful, functional pieces, reducing waste while reshaping how we can re-think our consumption behaviours and choices.
“Eco-innovation in South Africa is dynamic, diverse, and deeply inspiring, and there is simply no limit to the creativity we’re seeing in this space. Over the years, we have seen winners demonstrate localised, community-driven solutions like climate education to eco-health and wellness programmes that create lasting impact while unlocking economic opportunity,” adds Parry-Davies.
As global climate activist and past Eco-Warrior Award winner Kumi Naidoo notes, “The urgency of our environmental crisis demands bold, innovative solutions and unwavering commitment from all sectors of society. These awards not only celebrate progress. They inspire it.”
Beyond the accolades, though, the value of being a finalist or winner extends far further. Winning an Eco-Logic Award is a springboard with finalists and winners gaining credibility, national exposure, and access to valuable networks that can open doors to funding, partnerships, and growth opportunities.”
“In an increasingly eco-conscious marketplace, this recognition carries weight with consumers, who have more power than ever before. Where consumers choose to spend their money matters, and they are increasingly opting to support brands and organisations that demonstrate a commitment to social and environmental sustainability,” says Parry-Davies.
How to enter
Entry is free and open to individuals, organisations, businesses, and communities making a positive environmental impact.
Submissions are evaluated by a panel of independent environmental experts, with Gold, Silver and Bronze winners announced across all 12 categories, including Climate Change, Water Conservation, Circular Economy and Waste Innovation, Eco-Fashion and Lifestyle, Eco-Innovation, and Eco-Communities, among others.
Entries close at the end of June 2026, and this year’s awards will culminate in a celebratory event on 5 October 2026 (World Habitat Day) at the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town, with renowned comedian Themba Robin returning as MC.
