The month of August is behind us, a clear sign that we are now heading towards the end of this extraordinary year. South Africa celebrates its beautiful women during this month of August, and at Hlengani we bow our head in honor and special recognition for the various roles our women play in our lives. Besides our own mothers and sisters, we recognize women who delivered the freedom we continue to enjoy today such as Albertina Sisulu, Helen Joseph, Lilian Ngoyi and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela amongst the millions who participated by the fight against the system of apartheid.
In South Africa and Africa, women have been previously marginalized, side-lined and often underrepresented. It is during this month that we shine the spotlight on their achievements, bravery, boldness, and honor them for their continued strength.
Thou August was a good month, there was an exceedingly high record of gender-based violence. The abuse and killing of women and children remain one of South Africa’s most difficult challenges. The killing of women and children is barbaric and we stand firm with all those who oppose this continued violence on our mothers, sisters and daughters. We urge all men to stand firm against it and put an end to it. At Hlengani, we will continue to spread messages of harmony and encourage men to protect their female counterparts.
South Africa moved to lockdown level 2 on the 17th of August and we anticipate some relief on the struggling South African economy. Stage 2 allowed millions of South Africans to go back to work and provide for their families. We hope that with level two, businesses can start operating normally and get back on track.
We are incredibly sad to say that on the 10th of August, the South African media industry lost one of its best, veteran Radio and TV personality Bob Mabena. Most media houses Mabena worked with are especially important partners to Hlengani.
We are now entering the warmer seasons and we have some exciting projects that we are working on with our partners. We will share more in our next edition. We look forward to a more relaxed, productive last quarter of the year. Remember to contact us for any reputation and crisis management and media relations services.
