Phoenix Touch Rugby Club Set To Launch Regular Training And Matches At Eastbury Grounds

The Phoenix Touch Rugby Club confirms that, effective 18 October 2026, we will begin regular training sessions and matches at Eastbury Community Grounds (cnr. Phoenix Highway and Eastbury Drive) in Phoenix, Durban. The eThekwini Municipality has formally approved this initiative, with documented support from the relevant Councillor and his likely successor.

We are not here to displace anyone, but to build, to offer young adults in our community a space for fitness, discipline, and unity through sport. Our doors are open to all who share that spirit. 

We are aware of the strained racial history of this area, including the painful events of the 2021 unrest, during which many families (including our own) suffered loss and betrayal by those meant to protect us. That memory is not forgotten. It is why we have taken responsibility for our own safety, partnering with KZN VIP Security, a firm already here as part of our neighbourhood, with proven experience in safeguarding our community during times of crisis, providing a formidable layer of community-based protection. 

We welcome goodwill and mutual respect from neighbouring teams. Should any other group seek shared use of the field, we are open to discussions - provided such arrangements are made through official channels and do not compromise our scheduled access.

Our presence is peaceful, but our resolve is firm. And our commitment to this community - through action, not words - remains unwavering.
