Monster Energy Rider Malcolm Peters To Compete In Park Lines BMX Championship

The 2023 Park Lines BMX Tournament on 27 May at the legendary Stoneridge Skate Park is confirmed as South Africa's first BMX Freestyle Championship.
Set to bring together some of the most talented BMX Freestyle riders from across the country to compete for the South African BMX Freestyle champion title. The event promises to be an action-packed showcase of creativity and skill as riders perform tricks and stunts to win their share of the prize purse and see who will be crowned event champions.
One of these riders is the talented Malcolm Peters from Hout Bay. Malcolm has been riding for 20 years and competing for more than 10 years and is excited about competing at Park Lines.
Malcolm, what's happening? You amped?
I'm so pumped to see all the BMX riders again from all over the place and get another chance to ride the Stoneridge Skatepark.
What do you feel finally having a sanctioned and recognised BMX Freestyle contest will do for the sport in South Africa?
It's definitely a step in the right direction and, hopefully, combined with this event and similar events, will get more kids involved in BMX and grow the sport.
How do you prepare physically and mentally for a contest like Park Lines?
I do not do too much prep these days, but I like spending a few days at The Compound Bike Park in Johannesburg to dial in a few new tricks to return home to the dirt.
Surely the aim will be to become the first South African Champion?
Yes, for sure.
SA Champs also offers the opportunity to earn UCI points that could help qualify for World Champs and Olympics. So what does this mean to you?
Hopefully, more time on the bike and riding with all the boys and girls.
With this opportunity, will you focus more on qualifying for such international events?
It is an excellent opportunity for the young cats, but I'll probably do the opposite. My riding path is to die young at a very old age. Just keep maintaining the steeze for many years to come.
The Stoneridge Skate Park, based in the Stoneridge Centre, Greenstone Park, Johannesburg, will be specifically reopened for the BMX Park Freestyle tournament and will see invited riders from around South Africa to compete in the Pro Division, as well as allow up-and-coming riders to compete in the Amateur Division.
The Park Lines BMX Tournament is a Cycling South Africa and UCI event sanctioned by Cycling South Africa.
Park Lines organiser Ryan van der Spuy says, "Having already run two successful Park Lines events, we now reach the next milestone within this brand by taking it to the next level as the first ever South African Championships of BMX Freestyle. We are excited to finally have this discipline of BMX recognised and sanctioned by Cycling South Africa, adding to the development and growth of the sport. It will be a great day of action come 27 May, and we cannot wait."
