Submitted by: Cayden Robert
Cayden Robert, a rising star in South African motorcycle racing, is gearing up for the prestigious Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup Selection Event. The event will be held at the Mike G Circuit in Guadix, Spain, starting on 29 September 2024. This selection event is a crucial milestone for riders aiming to compete in the MotoGP World Championship, organised by Dorna, the company behind MotoGP and World Superbike Championships.
“Being invited to the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Selection Event for the second time is an incredible honour. Last year’s experience was transformative and fuelled my passion even further. Having followed the careers of Brad and Darryn Binder, and now being part of this programme, is a dream come true. I’ve worked hard to improve my skills and am excited to showcase my progress,” says Robert.
The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup is known for being a gateway to the highest level of motorcycle racing. Each year, around 100 talented young riders from across the globe are invited to participate in this prestigious selection process.
Over the course of the four-day event, each rider gets two 15-minute track sessions to impress the selectors. Around 50 riders advance to the finals on day three, and by the end of the rigorous selection process, 8 to 10 riders will earn a place in the 2025 Rookies Cup Championship. Those selected will receive a fully sponsored ride, complete with all the equipment necessary for the season, competing on KTM Moto3 bikes. Notably, seven of the last nine Moto3 World Champions, including South Africa’s own Darryn Binder, have risen through the Red Bull Rookies program.
Robert, accompanied by his father and coach, Craig Robert, will depart South Africa for Spain on 24 September to finalise his preparations.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge and am committed to giving my best performance. Regardless of the outcome, I know it will be an unforgettable experience,” concludes Robert.
