Preparations continue to intensify for the four South African women as they increase their training and experience in preparation to summit Mt. Everest in April 2020 as the first all-women team from Africa to complete the climb
The four mountaineers are Lisa Gering, Alda Waddell, Deshun Deysel, and Tumi Mphahlele, all from Johannesburg, with Ronnie Muhl, mountaineer and founder of Cape Town-based Adventures Global, managing the logistics.
As part of their preparation agenda from 10 to 15 October two team members – Lisa and and Alda – climbed Mafadi in the Drakensberg, which is the highest point in South Africa. In August this year, Tumi and Alda completed the South African 9 Peaks Challenge, summiting the highest peak in each of the nine provinces, which included Mafadi.
