3rd Comrades success for Renishaw Hills runner

At 69 years young, Juergen Baumann, a resident of Renishaw Hills in Scottburgh, recently completed his third Comrades Marathon, clocking an impressive time of 11:14:34. Originally from Germany, Juergen and his wife, Barbara, found their perfect retirement haven in the vibrant community of Renishaw Hills on the KZN South Coast.

Since moving here in 2022, Juergen has rekindled his passion for running, participating in his latest Comrades Marathon this year. Commenting on the run, he said: “I have been running ultra marathons for many years but never before has my hobby been so much in the community's attention.

Comrades 2024 was a test to see whether I can cope with such an effort at almost 70 years of age. What I can say is, this run was not a competition for me, but a happening. The joy of life along the route made the run relatively easy for me and I now know what my performance level is, and can prepare for the next Comrades. I am sure that the Renishaw Hills community is behind me!”
