World’s largest amateur golf tournament expanding further with Turkish Airlines

Published: 07 March 2017

The fifth staging of the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Amateur Series – the globe’s biggest corporate amateur tournament - will touch down once again at Cape Town on Thursday, March 9th. It is the 4th time that the widely-renowned TAWGC has visited Cape Town as the tournament continues to go from strength to strength. The tournament consists of 100 Qualifying Series events, played as individual stableford competitions off full handicap allowance, across 63 countries – with 100 champions winning through to the thrilling Grand Final in Turkey.

Once again the finalists – trimmed from a field of 8,000 players last year – will fly Business Class on Turkish Airlines from their qualifying destination to Antalya and will spend an incredible week at the five-star luxury Titanic Deluxe Belek hotel in Antalya, Turkey. Finalists will compete over two rounds at the neighbouring Titanic Golf Club, which is one of Turkey’s Golf Coast’s best courses. Past winners have progressed to play in the Pro-Am of the Turkish Airlines Open, part of the European Tour’s ‘Final Series’. The Financial Times, Enterprise Rent A Car, Allianz and Conte of Florence are offering their substantial support to the hugely-anticipated tournament.

The TAWGC is a significant part of Turkish Airlines’ wide-ranging backing for golf that includes an event on the Challenge Tour – the European Tour’s second tier – and longstanding support for ladies golf, as well as the prestigious Turkish Airlines Open. General Manager Kenan Ince from the Cape Town Turkish Airlines local office said: “We are delighted to host a Qualifying Series event for the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup. “The events are now a key part of the calendar for the region’s business community. We’re looking forward to another memorable occasion and a worthy winner.”

Kenan Ince from the Cape Town Turkish Airlines local office said: “Flying to more countries than any other airline in the world, Turkish Airlines is committed to supporting and working with sport and international sporting organizations that brings people together from all over the world. Alongside TAWGC, Turkish Airlines lends its full support to several other international sports organizations, including Turkish Airlines Euroleague, Europe’s top club level basketball competition. With the sporting governing bodies and leading sporting organizations and events are partnered by Turkish Airlines, we are transporting the leading athletes of the world in comfort to compete to be champions!
