IdentiScan: The Ultimate Protection for South African businesses

Published: 21 February 2017

IdentiScan is a handheld device that patrolling guards or gate guards can use to scan the barcodes of ID documents and driver’s license disks to gather information about those who are entering the facility. It also provides guards with a helpful selection of questions which they can use to both screen guests and gather the necessary data for future use. The security company or the manager that is involved with the management of the guards on duty can select which questions need to be asked to help determine which data should be collected.

Why is the IdentiScan device an advantage for security companies?

Being able to correctly identify criminals is one of the biggest crime deterrents available. For the criminal, it is all about identifying which company is weaker than the rest in terms of the security procedures that are in place. This means that criminals will usually know exactly what kind of security systems they are dealing with before they attempt anything.

With IdentiScan, criminals will be aware of the data collection being a prerequisite to them entering the business premises. Knowing that all of the valuable data will be collected means that they are less likely to take a chance, as they know that there is a higher probability of them being caught. This is why having IdentiScan as a part of your security companies systems can be one of the most important factors for preventing crime.

The standout features of IdentiScan

The IdentiScan device comes with numerous features which contribute to the device being a success in data collection.

The features of IdentiScan include:

  • Laser scanning
  • Detection of all forms of SA identification
  • Secure storage of data in an internationally recognised hosting centre
  • Local support of hardware
  • Cradle charger
  • Remote measuring of available battery level (and warning emails to supervisors)
  • GPS location of device (if lost or stolen)
  • Guard identification by pin (access records tagged with guard name)
  • White Listed vehicles, drivers and pedestrians
  • Black Listed vehicles, drivers and pedestrians
  • Contractors have the control
  • Dial residents directly from IdentiScan
  • Resident list downloads to the unit. (guard can choose the destination address)
  • Photo upload of drivers to the secure server
  • Open gate from hand held unit using BlueLock

Some of the benefits of IdentiScan include a high level of access to information provided by the data that is collected, the removal of the need to have any paper-based registers filled out when visitors enter a building, visitors can be processed faster when entering the business or facility, the data can be safely kept off-site, automatic warnings when undesirable people enter the facility and easier, more accurate reporting is available.

IdentiScan is one of four security products available from one of Cape Town’s most renowned security companies. You can find out more about IdentiScan and the other products available by visiting their website at http://www.identiscan.co.za/ or by visiting http://www.onguard.co.za/

Identiscan is protecting more businesses with high tech visitor management system

Published: 06 February 2017

For the South African market, Identiscan is the security system used to scan information off of all kinds of barcodes including South African Identity Documents and Cards, and motor vehicles. Identiscan is set to replace the outdated visitor's book, which needs to be manually updated and which is not an accurate security system. Such books require information to be written in and this means that illegible handwriting or missing information leaves gaps in the security.

Identiscan is a turnkey piece of technology that is bound to change the way that companies look at their security.

Why is the Identiscan Electronic Visitor Management System valuable?

For effective security, having this kind of computerised technology means having a valuable electronic paper trail of data and information should it be needed. Companies cannot afford to not have proper security measures in place, especially when dealing with numerous visitors each day. While your CCTV system can be your eyes, your surveillance system is not enough to give you the information you really need; the identities of your visitors.

One of the features that enhances the security of this system is that the guard on duty will need to scan their own finger when coming on duty. This then creates accountability as the guard will not be able to lie about who they have let in, and if they have forgotten then the system will remember for them by providing the necessary information. Identiscan increases the security for the building and allows people to be more responsible for their duties.

All of the data is encrypted and stored offsite, keeping it as safe as possible from those who might attempt to gain access to it. The data is further protected by only allowing access to those whose fingerprints have been programmed into the system and are given authorisation to extract the data. Each day the data can be emailed to the relevant people, simplifying the process and removing the need for paper.

This foolproof system can be programmed to collect specific data that is relevant to your data requirements. This makes Identiscan a versatile data collection system.

The technology behind Identiscan

Identiscan is a handheld mobile terminal which, as previously stated, scans barcodes on ID documents, driver’s licences and motor vehicle licences. Specific data can be requested to be collected by the guard on duty with the data needed being ticked off from the data collection matrix. Once data is collected it is sent to the offsite secure server via WIFI or GSM.   The scanner makes use of the Ciperlab Laser and once the data is read it stored offsite in a way that is POPI Compliant. This is a turnkey solution in the security industry as it requires no extra on-site hardware or installation.

The system can also be used to create reports giving those who have installed the device the opportunity to have all of the information needed to give them an accurate report of who entered and exited their facility.

Identiscan is a product of one of Cape Town’s leading security management companies. You can find out more about their product by visiting their website: http://www.identiscan.co.za/

With the holidays fast approaching, now is the time to think of security!

Published: 05 December 2016

With the holidays fast approaching, now is the time to think and prepare for what security alternatives there are aside from the normal alarm systems and burglar bars.

Afraid of what might be lurking in or outside your home, then security IP Cameras are powerful deterrents to check unlawful activities and are widely used for indoor and outdoor surveillance. IP Security Cameras can provide vital clues to the police to identify and trace people involved in unlawful activities as well as you being able to track movements inside and outside your home/office.

Security cameras have come a long way in the last few years namely the affordability and they are now much more user friendly. Most of the cameras such as Foscam IP Cameras are plug and play which means you plug it in and scan the barcode with your smartphone to start your camera setup.

IP camera surveillance systems definitely are the way to go as the picture quality is excellent and you are able to view live footage from the palm of your hand via your mobile phone, tablet or laptop.

Foscam IP Cameras have things such as alerts that can be setup on movement, once motion is detected you will receive an alert and snapshot of who or what it is to your smartphone giving you control of what is happening at your premises. This kind of security surveillance lets you have full control of your valuable and beloved ones when you are away from home, keeping you connected at all times.

Remote viewing - IP cameras are very different to the way the old cctv systems worked. They have created apps and interfaces that can help to view images easily on your personal computer, tablet or smartphone.

Infrared Vision - It is useless to have a surveillance system that does not show clear pictures in total darkness. Thus it is important that one keeps this in mind while choosing your security surveillance system with the best Infra -Red night vision.

NVR - If you are wanting 24-7 surveillance then a Network Video Recorder is the solution. It is not possible to view your home at all times but with a NVR you can have it set up to record all the time or only when motion is detected. You can then view what you have missed out on during that day or the week via your browser. If you are interested in adding a little security to your home especially during the holidays, then contact Foscam for any advise and quotations. Alternatively visit our website at www.foscam.co.za

Looking to the future with internet cameras

Published: 10 March 2015

IP (internet) cameras are the future, they work by turning images into data, then transmitting this data over a network or internet connection.

The ultimate benefit of this over analogue cctv systems is great flexibility, better performance and easier installation.

Video surveillance is an important tool, being used in a wide variety of areas, from private residences to large businesses. The fantastic thing about IP cameras is that they can be set up anywhere without any extra hardware. IP cameras enable remote viewing indoors and outdoors, during the day or night. Their remote access gives users peace of mind, they can watch footage in and around their home or business even while away from the property, on holiday at home or abroad from their laptop, tablet or smartphone.

IP cameras have become so easy to install and use that everyone from business owners to world travelers to soccer moms are using them. Every time motion is sensed, you will receive an email with a snap shot, letting you decide whether to log in and take a look, thus providing you with the ability to protect your home from intruders.

Unfortunately as seen on Carte Blanche on 08/03/2015, we see a robbery taking place with the help of a security company that is paid to protect the house from intruders while the family is on holiday. Had the family had IP cameras they would have been able to view the intruders breaking in and call someone to assist them and report the robbery immediately. Sadly we live in times that it seems nobody can be trusted, the future is IP cameras to monitor your home whether you want to watch the kids, elderly parents, staff members or for security purposes, internet cameras are the way to go.

Moving to the World of IP Cameras

Published: 22 January 2015

The surveillance market as we know it is moving to the world of IP Cameras and devices. IP is the latest and greatest technology out there at the moment in terms of surveillance. The advantages you have are that you are able to access live images off a network camera from anywhere in the world using a web browser.

IP systems will alert you when problems occur by sending live video to laptops and cell phones for immediate review. IP cameras are an advantage as the cameras offer as much as 10 times the resolution and images do not lose quality in transmission or storage. These cameras are more cost effective as there is no need to run cables which makes it more cost effective than its analog counterpart.

Most times a IP  based network is a easy solution as most businesses and homes have internet access. As IP cameras are becoming more popular we will see increased complexity and intelligence at the camera level allowing for much more effective methods of surveillance than analogue systems. For all your security solutions contact www.foscam.co.za

Tis the season to be vigilant!

Published: 19 November 2014

Foscam would like to issue a warning as we go into the silly season.

Christmas is such a magical time of year... lots to be thankful for and wonderful parties to attend. Some of us are lucky enough to get away for a change of scenery. Those of us who stay at home may tend to have a more relaxed outlook on life. But please, beware, criminals are most likely to strike when given half the opportunity, when your guard is down or even better, when a home is empty.

Foscam, leaders in surveillance cameras supply households and companies alike with security cameras that send live footage directly to your cellphone or web browser.

Foscam IP cameras, or in lamans terms, ‘internet cameras’, simply require a wifi signal that they can pick up on where they are installed (either ADSL or by means of 3G), and a standard electric point. Once the camera is configured, download an app to your smartphone and no matter where you are in the world, you will be able to login and monitor your most prized assets.

So if you are going on holiday this December, or simply want to beef up your security, why not take a look at our website, www.foscam.co.za where you can purchase your security cameras online. We deliver countrywide and sell a wide range of indoor and outdoor security cameras to suit your needs.
