Local fashion brand, Julz, embarks on overseas expansion

Published: 28 June 2018

In four years, footwear and handbag brand, Julz, has grown from an idea to a multi-million Rand business with 200 stockists across South Africa. And now its founder, Julie Oates, is taking the brand to the UK’s largest fashion trade event, Moda.

Before launching Julz, Julie’s entrepreneurial experience includes owning Pixel Shoes, a popular footwear store in Port Elizabeth. And it was from her experience working with footwear wholesalers, listening to the needs and wants of her customers and her passion for business that Julz was born.

A high-end brand, Julz features shoes and handbags in each season’s collection, using only the best quality leather, with the latest designs featuring ostrich leather and feathers. Talking about the brand’s success, Julie says: “Attention to detail, high quality materials, investment in research and development to ensure our shoes are stylish and comfy, and running a lean operation has really contributed to the success of Julz. I want to mimic the success we’ve had in South Africa in Europe, and Moda is the best place to start.”

Experiencing steady growth, the tipping point came when a chain of 19 stores started stocking Julz with future growth expected to come from overseas retail opportunities. “We’re still a young business, but our growth has been rapid but steady, in our first year we grew by 200% in terms of turnover,” remarks Julie.

From August 5th through to the 7th, the high-end fashion brand will be in front of 9,000 fashion buyers from across Europe at Moda, and Julie will be able to network with other industry decision makers and show the fashion world what South African brands have to offer. “We’re the only South African brand at Moda 2018 out of the 1,200 exhibitors,” beams Julie.

Bronx Woman launches AW17 footwear collection

Published: 08 June 2017

This autumn/winter Bronx Woman has created an exciting line that is stylish, affordable and comfortable.  Combining beautiful, trend-right styling comfort and quality for every woman, the newest line of footwear features rich browns and softer nudes and maroons.

Designed to keep women looking good and feeling great during the cool weather, the collection features a beautiful cut-away ankle boot, rugged yet feminine ‘work boots’, sleek ankle boots, biker styles, knee-high boots and the Bronx Woman favourite, the Westee.

“We know women want to look their best and feel confident as they take on their day” says Wayne Roos, head designer for Bronx Woman. “Our women’s footwear combines beauty and comfort, and women look feminine and stylish whether it’s on the school run, in the workplace or while they’re exploring our beautiful country.”

With a nod to previous Bronx Woman best-sellers, the AW17 collection takes inspiration from trends seen coming through from international retailers. “We know what South African women want to wear, and how they like to express themselves,” adds Roos, a footwear designer of 24 years. “And our extensive fitting trials mean our footwear is as comfortable as possible.”

Rollasole continues to make an impact in Hollywood

Published: 09 January 2017

We are delighted for our colleagues at Rollasole USA, who once again teamed up with L'Oreal to feature one of our brand’s trademark vending machines at the InStyle official after-party of the 2017 Golden Globes.

This follows last year’s synergistic success, which saw actress, Brie Larson ditch her heels for a pair of our fabulous flats to get comfy after the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards. In the words of InStyle’s Brandi Fowler, “After her glorious evening, Larson hit up the People and EIF SAG Awards party and cut loose, literally kicking off her Roger Vivier heels in favour of a pair of portable L’Oreal Rollasole flats that were being dispensed for free in a vending machine (yes, a shoe-dispensing vending machine!) at the venue.”

For the 2016 Golden Globes after-party, Empire’s Taraji P. Henson made a quick change into an easier-to-wear boudoir-inspired Stella McCartney gown. The shoes came off next—she pulled her whole girl squad over to the L'Oréal Rollasole station, where she picked up a pair of gold flats.

We hope to see this glamorous track record extend far into the future and will do our level best to elevate the Rollasole name right here in SA!
