We’re asking South Africans: What would YOU do with R1 million?

Published: 19 September 2016

This Big September, LottoStar, in collaboration with Joburg’s biggest radio station 947, is giving one lucky South African the chance to decide what they would do with one million Rand. That’s right – we’re giving away R1 million to one lucky winner with the How Lucky Can You Get competition. It gets better: as a way of paying it forward and recognizing those who go above and beyond for others, we’re also giving non-profit organisation (NGO) The Grace Factory R1 million.

So far, members from LottoStar, 947, The Grace Factory and the public have made up 2 000 packs and we’ve delivered about 500 packs to six hospitals around Gauteng.

Who is The Grace Factory?

This NGO’s amazing work includes supporting children’s homes by providing them with basic necessities such as clothes, blankets, nappies, baby formula, and other toiletries. Founded in 2013 by Amy Westerman, who currently works full time in a corporate firm as a Chartered Accountant, Alison Wright works at the organisation full time and spends her days collecting clothes, dropping off and following up on donations. “Words cannot express how grateful The Grace Factory is for this life changing donation,” says Westerman. “What started out like any old Monday, was one of the biggest day's in The Grace Factory's history. The R1 million is more than we ever could've imagined and we can help more people with this money than our wildest imaginations could've ever dreamed. Thanks to Lottostar and 947 we can change the lives of so many vulnerable moms and babies. The community of JHB (and now PE, Cape Town and even Welkom) has been so very receptive towards what we are trying to achieve. We have had so many volunteers offer of their time and baby donations and we would like to thank each and every one of them. Together we CAN (and will) make a difference in South Africa."

The How Lucky Can You Get competition

Entering is extremely easy: head over to 947.lottostar.co.za and predict 7 numbers. As a registered LottoStar player, the winner will receive R1 million and a non-registered player will receive R500 000. The winner will be announced during a live outside broadcast with 947’s Breakfast Xpress team on the 3rd of October. Those who try their luck will essentially be playing on one of LottoStar’s most played games, the SuperEnaLotto. Played all over the world, this Italy based game started in the 1950’s, and draws take place on Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays at 21h00 (GMT+2) in Rome. Those betting on the SuperEnaLotto choose a total of six numbers out of 90 and a bonus ‘SuperStar’ number. If the chosen numbers match the numbers that are drawn – or a combination of them - the player will place in one of the game’s total of 14 prize tiers.

About LottoStar Licensed and regulated in South Africa by the Mpumalanga Gambling Board, LottoStar is the first website of its kind to ever be launched in the country for the South African market. Offering up incredible potential winnings which have never been seen before in South Africa by allowing players to bet on the results of a hand-picked selection of spectacular international lottery games. My Most Beautiful Baby 2016 Winner Announced

Published: 13 July 2016

SOUTH AFRICA’S MOST BEAUTIFUL BABY WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

The judge’s votes are in and the competition was fierce with over 40 000 entrants all vying for a chance at over R151 000 in prizes.

Earlier this month the Top 50 finalists were put out to public vote, and all votes have supported the Mater Domini pregnancy in crisis centre who have received R100 000 in donations comprising of basinets, bedding, toiletries and sanitarywear for moms and babies who have taken shelter at the home.

For Mater Domini, the support could not have come at a better time.  “Mater Domini is blessed to be the beneficiary of R100 000 in support from the My Most Beautiful Baby initiative. Through this, we have received invaluable exposure for our cause and our work supporting vulnerable women during crisis pregnancy and assisting them in caring and nurturing their newborn babies.” Were the appreciative words of Megan Taljaard, representative for the charity.

Competition Chief Marketing Officer, Monique Elliot added that ongoing support for the centre is of a huge concern. “Mater Domini is desperate for funding and at risk of closure in four months.  We are also assisting with repairs to their kitchen and an online shopping credit and cash to help with consumable expenses and we urge any member of the public who can assist them to reach out via their website www.materdomini.net.”

Upon receiving the gifts, the charity could hardly contain their gratitude, “This is an amazing and generous donation and our thanks and appreciation is unbounded.     Services such as ours cannot sustain itself without the assistance of initiatives such as My Most Beautiful Baby who have established innovative ways to look at a bigger and deeper understanding of the beauty of all babies, including the vulnerable.” continued Megan.

Thousands of parents entered their babies aged 0 – 36 months and have been eagerly awaiting today’s announcement of the winners.  Organisers, MMB Online are thrilled with the success of this year’s competition.  “It’s been incredibly well supported by mom’s and dad’s across South Africa and our main sponsor, Huggies – Nappy Pants and all our other sponsor’s with over tenfold the entries of the 2015 Baby contest.

Entries came in droves with over 650 000 users on the website in less than eight weeks and just under 50 000 fans added to our Facebook page!”  said Monique.

Surprise Lelope from Johannesburg’s son Duncan who is nine months old, won 1st prize and R100 000 in the competition with nine additional winners each taking their share of R51 000 in cash.

Little Duncan’s dad is beaming with pride as he says.  “Thank you very much to all those who voted for my baby to win the 1st prize of R100 000 in the My Most Beautiful Baby competition. I've learnt a lot throughout this voting experience, and I would like to thank all the competition judges and voting public who contributed 20 % and 80 % to the voting total respectively. “

For those wanting to find out if their adorable baby is among the winners, please visit http://mymostbeautiful.com/baby-2016/     or their Facebook page.

As a result of the tremendous success of the competition, MMB Online have been prompted to launch a new initiative, titled “mMb.gives” – a champion of charities who will be supported by the competition ventures.

Monique says they have already registered Mater Domini and 26 other initial charities as beneficiaries to whom they have found innovative ways of lending ongoing indefinite support.  “These numbers are expected to grow each month.”  added Monique

In addition, mom’s and dad’s with kids aged between 3 and 6 years’ can look forward to a new contest, myMOSTbeautiful.com KID launching soon.  Simply head to www.mymostbeautiful.com to view the next campaign.

Clover Little Big Cook Off wins Best Game Show at SAFTAs 2015

Published: 25 March 2015

Clover Little Big Cook Off wins the Best Game Show category in the ninth South African Film Television Awards (SAFTA’s) held on 20th and 22nd March 2015.

The #CloverLBCO AFP (advertiser-funded program), which was produced by Quizzical, South Africa’s leading film and television production house, was up against Cula Sibone, Nguwe, and Clover’s own Tropika Island of Treasure in this category. Because there were no nominations for the Best Game Show category in 2014, the last winners of this category were Jam Alley in 2013 (SABC 1) and Kom ons Karaoke in 2012.

“Clover dedicates the award to all the South African families who participated in and watched the show,” says Sherian King, Clover’s marketing manager: Dairy. “We knew that South Africans loved the show, but this accolade is a wonderful acknowledgement and demonstrates our continuous drive to be Way Better™.”

The 2015 awards, which was themed “Coming of Age”, enthralled celebrities, entertainment industry leaders and prominent officials in two star-studded evenings held at Gallagher Estate. Zama Mkosi, SAFTA’s chairperson said that the talent for SAFTA’s 2015 were very high.

“As a unique cooking challenge where children and their parents compete against other food-mad families on national television, the accolade goes a long way to boosting the interest in Season 2 of the show, which airs from the 28th June 2015,” says King.

Again teams will out-cook and out-whisk each other over thirteen weeks of baking, frying and spatula-waving action in a bid to become the champions and win fantastic prizes (including a family trip to Disney World and a kitchen makeover), countrywide acclaim and see their recipes published in another Clover Little Big Cook Off Recipe Book.

Entries for family teams to participate in Season 2 are currently open and will close on the 15 April 2015. Visit the Clover website for competition T’s & C’s.

City Lodge Hotel Group sponsors accommodation for SA Culinary Team as they prepare for World Culinary Olympics

Published: 05 March 2015

Great news for the South African National Culinary Team is that the City Lodge Hotel Group will be taking care of their accommodation needs as they prepare for next year’s IKA Culinary Olympics taking place in Erfurt, Germany!

This means that the eight member team – three from Johannesburg and five from Cape Town – will be able to get together for practices as they build up to the big event which takes place from October 22-26 in 2016.

If the Joburgers go down to Cape Town, they will be able to stay at any City Lodge Group Hotel – if the Capetonians come up to Joburg, they will be able to stay at any City Lodge Group Hotel.

As Heinz Brunner, manager of the SA National Culinary Team, says: “Travel is necessary to ensure that the team can practise together and then go back to their restaurants and perfect their dishes through including them on their own menus.” The team will practise at different venues every two months.

“We are training hard, developing an exceptional menu and working as a team to produce world-class food that represents South Africa’s culinary scene with excellence. We couldn’t do this without our fantastic sponsors and partners. A huge thank you goes to the City Lodge Hotel Group for their support as our accommodation partner and to Imperial LSC as our headline sponsor.”

Commenting on behalf of the City Lodge Hotel Group, Peter Schoeman, Divisional Director, Sales and Marketing, said: “It is a privilege for us to assist our Springboks of the food world as they prepare to represent our country in the world’s ultimate culinary challenge.”

The competition will see national teams from across the globe compete in categories such as Hot Kitchen, Cold Table and Pastry.

Online Buying and Selling Reinvented

Published: 23 January 2015

SOUTH AFRICA – Jan, 2015 – After much anticipation LiveBids Auctions has been launched in South Africa. LiveBids offers a unique online buying and selling platform that incorporates different aspects of various social media.

This means that a choice of interests, following friend’s, search hundreds of products while buying items for a fraction of the cost and selling them to make real profits.

LiveBids aims to help buyers and sellers fully connect in trade with seamless transactions. It is an online marketplace that is simple, interactive and social. It allows users to experience a real-time marketplace, buy products lower than the market value and socially follow buyers and sellers.

Two formats are used, namely online auctions and pay-per-bid. The first of these is the traditional online auction model, where items are sold to the highest bidder. The second is a pay-per-bid model, where would-be buyers purchase credits to bid on items. These credits go to the seller, which is how it is possible to purchase big-ticket items for nominal amounts.

The founders of LiveBids, Rory Vollmer and Paul Hoft, explain that “the idea was to create an online marketplace that was simple, interactive and social, helping buyers and sellers connect and trade. The marketplace is completely people driven”.
