DANCE QUEEN, LADY ZAMAR TO THRILL FANS AT BIRCHWOOD

Lady Zamar, 2018 SAMA Award-winner for Best Dance Album, will provide Joburg East with an opportunity to dance their socks off on Wednesday, 8 August at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg. Joining Lady Zamar are Afro-Jazz songstress, Nokukhanya Dlamini, comedienne Celeste Ntuli and the Music Academy of Gauteng Orchestra in the August edition of the Birchwood Comes Alive Jazz Evenings.

Pretoria-based House Music artist, Lady Zamar, will headline the evening with her sensational hits inspired by everyday life and aimed at promoting positive change in the world. Putting her stamp on SA’s dance music scene, she has performed at the 2018 Miss SA Pageant and won Song of the Year at the DSTV Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards.

Versatile Jazz songstress, Nokukhanya Dlamini, will take to the Birchwood stage with her broad style of music; including Jazz, Afro-Jazz, traditional music and Soul. Having grown up in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal, Dlamini was first noticed as a member of a Gospel group that predominantly sang at weddings, has since had a long solo career and her albums have received plenty of airplay.

Opening the evening is the Music Academy of Gauteng Jazz Orchestra, a community-based NGO focused on musical education for youth from disadvantaged families and informal settlements, with a tribute to the late John Mekoa, legendary trumpeter and Jazz educator.

Joining hilarious MC, Hector Motivator, is stand up comedienne, Celeste Ntuli, whose career began as a contestant in SABC’s “So You Think You’re Funny”. Since then, she has been making waves in a male-dominated comedy industry with the Mbokodo Award for Best Comedienne in 2015, a nominee in the SA Comics Choice Awards for 2015 and 2016, and a nominee in the Favourite Comedian category in the 2016 YOU Spectacular Awards.

Jaziel Brothers, Selmor Mtukudzi Light Up Ekurhuleni At Birchwood

Metro FM Music Award winners and sibling duo, the Jaziel Brothers, will be headlining an evening of talented performances on Friday, 6 April at the Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz Evening. Joining them on the Birchwood Hotel stage is multiple award-winning songstress, Selmor Mtukudzi and Idols 2017 top 3 contestant Bothlale Phora.

Johannesburg-based, RnB-Pop fusion duo, the Jaziel Brothers are not only known for their outstanding performances but also their work in producing award-winning albums and singles for local artists’ Lesego, Kelly Khumalo, Garth Taylor, Jub Jub and Malini. Adamant to set their own genre of music, and inspired by the likes of Boyz to Men, these brothers aim to push the boundaries of well-known genres to create sounds that are full of energy.

Also taking to the stage is Zimbabwean solo musician and actress, Selmor Mtukudzi, who is well-known all over the African continent for her upbeat, dance songs that are about social commentary and daily challenges people face. Daughter to Afro-Jazz artist, Oliver Mtukudzi, and wife to vocalist and guitarist, Tendai Manatsa, with whom she shares two albums, Mtukudzi has won numerous awards in Zimbabwe, America and has been nominated in Nigeria and the UK.

Opening the evening is Idols season 13 contestant, Bothlale Phora, who was a fulltime musician before working his way up to the top three in the competition. Since then he’s shared a stage with Lira and Robby Malinga, and is set to release his latest Afro-Pop single “Mama Ka Nozi No Thando” soon.

An evening of entertainment would not be complete without resident MC Hector Motivator and, to add to the fun, local comedians’ Thulani “TinyTools” Ntlabati and Thabang ER take to the stage to present their take on everyday experiences and observations in their unique humorous way.

Ringo Madlingozi to lead Sensational Jazz line up at Birchwood

Iconic Afro-Soul vocalist, Ringo Madlingozi will be joined by multi-nominated SAMA Award group, The Muffinz, and acapella group, Uncunthu The Firm – Africa, to present an eclectic mix of soul-soothing sounds at the Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz Evening, taking place at Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg on Friday, 9 March.

Needing no introduction, Sindile "Ringo" Madlingozi, will be headlining the evening with his inspirational, spiritual rhythms. Ringo has racked up a number of awards over the years including Best Male Vocalist at the South African Music Awards as well as Best Male Artist (Southern Africa) and Best Male Vocalist (African Continent) at the Kora awards.

Supporting Ringo are The Muffinz, five vocalists whose music is best described as a fusion of a variety of genres. Their unique sound, including drums, harmonies, guitars and base, has seen them perform at the Confederation of African Football Awards and at the Sounds of Soweto experience.

Opening the evening is upcoming local group, Uncunthu The Firm – Africa, consisting of four talented afro-pop and soul vocalists who are making a big splash on the Johannesburg music scene.

Resident MC Hector Motivator will direct the evening’s entertainment, while comedians Schoolboy and Chik Aljoy are guaranteed to have guests in stitches with their much-loved ventriloquism and local humour.

A Romantic Evening with Nathi, Kelly at Birchwood

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and instead of buying a cliché gift for your soulmate, treat them to a romantic jazz experience like no other. The Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz Evening, taking place at Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg on 16 February, will feature triple-platinum artist Nathi Mankayi, SAMA award-winning songstress and reality TV star Kelly Khumalo, and Afro-Fusion songstress Zamajobe Sithole, in an evening that promises to be an unforgettable experience.

In partnership with The City of Ekurhuleni, The Sowetan, Mail & Guardian and The Star newspapers, Nathi Mankayi, acclaimed for having produced the fastest selling album in SA, “Buyelekhaya”, will headline the evening. Not only was his debut album a hit on the local scene, 10 songs on the album all made the Top 30 singles on world charts.  

Also making a lead performance is singer and actress Kelly Khumalo, who needs little introduction. Among her numerous awards, most recently her musical accolades include the Metro FM Award for Best Female Album, as well as a double SAMA Award Nominee for Best African Adult Album and Female Artist of the year 2017. Kelly has opened for international Rap star, Missy Elliot, has her own reality show Rolling With Kelly and has a best-selling biography “The Kelly Khumalo Story”. 

Supporting these local greats is Zamajobe Sithole, who first made her debut in the Top 10 of Idols Season 2, and won Best Newcomer in the 2005 SAMA Awards. Inspired by Eric Clapton, Sabelo Gxoyiya, Letta Mbulu, Abigail Khubeka, and Khadja Nin, her music resonates as a fusion of Afro-Jazz, Soul and Funk.

As always, resident MC Hector Motivator will direct the evening’s entertainment in his humorous way, while the Napsta, also known as Napoleon Masinga, will bring his high energy impersonations, accents, ventriloquism, alter-ego’s and musi-comedy to the evening’s entertainment. Proud of his clean sense of humour, the Napsta’s unique humour caters to a broad audience.
