Convert South Africa TRJ: a kit to up to 25% PV panels efficiency

Published: 18 December 2014

Convert has launched Convert TRJ KIT a ready-to use kite enable to rotates pgotovoltaic panels in according to the sun position along the whole of its daily East-West journey. Convert TRJ has been developed to maximize the economic energy efficiency of pv plants and it indeed increases the energy up to the 25% more than fixed systems.

The system has been conceived withe a single-axis, tilt° tracker which i s based on the movement on a single nort-south axis. In this way the panel is able to track the sun's position and oriented its surface optimally to reach the maximum irradiation. Moreover a back tracking system ensures that strings of panels don't shade other adiacent modules.

Thanks to a GPS bulit into the kit the system can track the exact position of the Sun in real time and coordinate it with other information as date and time and systems co-ordinate, so a constant and immediate exchange of data and information can ensure an accurate tracking of sun's position. In this way PV panels are optimally orianted at all times of the day without the need of any interventions or control.

Trj kit is also easy to install and fully compatible with all the most pv panels support on the market. Therefore the client doesn't need to buy a new whole system with a clear saving of both, money and also with a saving of pollution emissisons.

Convert South Africa LTD is a branch company fully controlled by Convert Italia Spa. Its offert to south african market includes pv project for better performance of solar fields, rural electrification with PV hybrid system and electrical power system engineering.Convert has decided to launched a branc company in South Africa because this is probably the most promising country in renewable development also for its geographical role of leader for neighoburough countries.

Supporting Local – The Culture that could have a lasting positive effect on the local economy

Published: 18 December 2014

Knysna, Western Cape, South Africa, December 2014 - The 2014 December Holiday season is upon us and Locals from the Garden Route, South Africa are ready for the annual influx of visitors to the area.

“We are looking forward to a busy season” says local crafter, Lisa Clark, of Shining Things “With the ‘Support Local’ culture bigger than ever we think that people are finally starting to realise that by supporting local they are improving the lifestyles of everyone in their community, including themselves.”

Clark is right about the effects of supporting local business. When you buy local produce you keep money circulating in your community. Rather than sending it off to big, internationally owned corporations, you are  making sure it gets back into the hands of the people around you. When your local crafters and producers in turn support local themselves the entire community benefits.

In this way the level of wealth in your area rises – which is always a good thing. It inevitably trickles down the food chain – making for more tax paying citizens, better public services and a lower crime rate.   When you buy from an independently owned market, like the Scarab market in Sedgefield, you are also guaranteed authenticity and a quality product – because the organisers want only the best produce on their markets, so they have regulations in place. So not only are you supporting local, but you are likely to be getting a better product for your money.

Eco-friendly shopping. For the most part local and hand crafted goods are exactly that – hand crafted. That means that they are less likely to be manufactured in large factories. They have been created somewhere close to where they are being sold – so less transport is needed. The cumulative effect is a lower carbon footprint and higher economic value. Basically it’s good all round.

Every summer SA’s coastal towns enjoy playing host to visitors from all over the country when friends and families come from far and wide to enjoy the natural attractions. If every holiday maker spends R100 on locally produced goods this summer – it could have outstanding effects for the smaller, tourist driven areas.

CITY LODGE HOTEL BRAND RECEIVES GREEN LEAF ECO STANDARD CERTIFICATION

Published: 03 July 2014

Further recognition of the City Lodge Hotel Group’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility

Johannesburg, June 27, 2014

The City Lodge Hotel brand within the City Lodge Hotel Group has been certified  by the Green Leaf™ Eco  Standard, acknowledging the significant improvements that have been made in the important areas of energy efficiency, water efficiency, waste management, responsible procurement and staff and guest awareness of environmental responsibility issues.

While the certification  initially applies only to the City Lodge Hotel brand, the group has largely implemented the same technology and procedures in its Courtyard Hotel, Town Lodge and Road Lodge brands.  Green Leaf™ Eco Standard is an initiative of the Wilderness Foundation, aimed at enabling and certifying the balance between business and nature.

Over the past three years, the City Lodge Hotel Group has rolled out a group-wide energy efficiency initiative across all four of its brands with the emphasis focused on the installation of LED lighting (around 40,000 bulbs) and heat pumps and the monitoring and reduction of energy consumption. The group is also a member of Eskom’s 49M energy efficiency campaign which commits partners to a 15% reduction in electricity usage.

Concerted efforts also focused on water efficiency and responsible waste management

More recently, the group has embarked on a water efficiency programme across the City Lodge Hotel brand, focusing on efficient flow technology on shower heads and taps, dual-flush toilets and the re-using of towels.  The intention is to roll this out across the other three brands.

Attention has also gone into improving waste management as part of the certification  for the City Lodge Hotel brand. This has included the separation of different types of waste on site, the transport of waste to recycling centres and the transport of non-recyclable waste to landfill sites

.According to Clifford Ross, the group’s CEO, “We’re proud of achieving this latest certification  as it recognises the serious attention we have paid to reducing our carbon footprint and maximizing our effective use of electricity and water and responsible disposal of recyclable and non-recyclable waste,” said Ross.

“Standards for responsible tourism have also been incorporated into the certification  we have received, further demonstrating our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility in our operations,” he added.Andrew Phillips, CEO of Green Leaf™ Eco Standard said: “I have had the pleasure of witnessing the leadership group of City Lodge initiate a responsible tourism mind-set change throughout its hotel brands and to now formally sign-off on core certification under the Green Leaf™ Eco Standard certification programme is recognition well deserved.”

Significantly, City Lodge’s Green Leaf certification  ideally complements the City Lodge Earth Day initiative, which was launched on social media platforms at the beginning of June. The core message of this campaign is that every day is Earth Day. The pay-off line is “no planet no you; no you, no us.”Marketing collateral is being developed to communicate this messaging to guests within hotels enabling them to participate in the campaign in a practical way.

LAUNCH OF WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME FOR REGISTERED SME’S

Published: 30 June 2014

Business & Professional Women (BPW SA), and the Department of Trade & Industry (the dti) are hosting a business breakfast on 7th August 2014 to launch a unique 3-day Women’s Empowerment Programme in South Africa to provide registered SME’s with the legislative knowledge required to effectively run their business within the parameters of South African law.

The breakfast is hosted by DDG Mr Mojalefa Mohoto and DDG Mrs Pumla Ncapayi from the DTI and BPW South Africa as well as senior representatives from the JSE and UN-Women and the Commonwealth Business Council.  Various international Ambassadors and High Commissioners will host tables at the event.  A sponsorship fund will be launched at the breakfast for qualifying enterprises.

Organisations of all sizes in South Africa need to develop and apply sound governance, risk and compliance principles and institute high ethical values. Failure to do so will have devastating consequences for the organisation, including penalties.   For SMEs, the biggest challenge is a lack of understanding around the difficulties associated with becoming compliant.   Understanding the ever-changing regulations makes the difference between a small business thriving – growing the economy and creating jobs – or closing its doors, and thus closing the door on job creation.

Simply put, you need to know your laws. Know your rights and obligations. In this way you mitigate risk to yourself, your business, your employees and your customers. If done well, it helps to improve business performance and ensure financial success.   If you would like to be part of this Women’s Empowerment Programme, we invite you to join us at this Business Breakfast – tickets are R500 per person or R5000 per table of 10.
