Wellness Wagon helps children in rural communities
Submitted by: MyPressportal TeamStarfish Greathearts Foundation, a Newsclip pro bono client, have launched the Wellness Wagon, a mobile clinic which aims to strengthen access to healthcare services for children in rural communities.
Starfish supports children orphaned or vulnerable in South Africa by working in partnership with community based organisations. They currently support over 11 000 children through 33 community-based organisations.
The Wellness Wagon is staffed by a professional nurse and offers a variety of primary health care services. These include; screening for TB, eyesight, hearing and oral hygiene, testing for HIV and STIs, checking road to health cards (immunisations), anthropometric assessments, deworming, para-medical care (physiotherapy), dietetics, prevention messaging and campaigning the prevention of drug and alcohol use and abuse and counselling on sexual and reproductive health issues.
The public are invited to “Jump on the Wagon” and donate R30 by SMSing “health” to 42646. Companies are also invited to get their CSI involved with “On the Road to Health” with Starfish.
