Solarpop to go bigger, bolder at Comic Con Africa

Comic Con Africa has always been the place where fandom is fully expressed. People arrive in costume, they queue for collectibles, gather around gaming tables and find new friends between the anime merch, artist alley and the next big dice roll.

As always, Solarpop will be right in the middle of that energy, bringing trading card games, board games, collectibles and hands-on play experiences to Comic Con Africa. This year Solarpop will be bringing opportunities to discover, learn, play, collect and experience in ways that are bolder, bigger and more awe inspiring than ever before!

Visitors can expect a strong focus on trading card games, with fan favourites such as Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, KPop Demon Hunters, My Little Pony, Star Wars Unlimited, Yu-Gi-Oh! and other card ranges forming part of the broader Solarpop showcase. For new collectors, it’s a chance to understand the hobby. For experienced players, it’s a chance to connect with others.

Pokémon will be a standout feature over the weekend, as it celebrates its 30th anniversary this year: fans can enjoy all things Pikachu and friends, from trading cards to lunchware, and more.

There’ll be board games galore, with opportunities for visitors to learn and try games in a relaxed, accessible environment. Whether you’re a  family looking for something to play at home, a casual gamer curious about the hobby, or a serious tabletop fan hunting for your next favourite title, Solarpop’s immersive play experience will be a highlight of the convention. A wide range of tabletop games will be available to play, including numerous versions of Catan, and Spot It! SA.

Look out for Tattoo Zoo, a brand-new, cheeky plush brand aimed at young adults – they’re so cool you may want to get a matching tattoo! Benny the bulldog, Barbara the bunny and Kenji the panda are some of the characters in this range, all covered in detailed, colourful tattoos. The unique selling point of Tattoo Zoo is its fusion of edgy counterculture styling with soft, adorable plush toys. The range bridges the gap between cute, high-quality stuffed animals and alternative, tattoo-inspired urban art.

A big spotlight will shine on the latest Dr Squish Glow it! range, filled with neon and glow in the dark, making squishies so much more fun! A collectibles arcade in the Kids Con area will be a highlight for kids and parents, with Solarpop showcasing Hook & Heart, Cherry Pets, Pembe, Beep Boop, My Vibe and more.

Philip Galliford, spokesperson for Solarpop, says: “Comic Con Africa is one of the biggest attractions on the calendar for tabletop gaming, TCGs, collectibles, toys, hobbies and more. This year, Solarpop’s activations are bolder and bigger, offering immersive experiences for all ages. For families, cosplayers, collectors, and visitors there will be lots to discover.  For us, it’s about creating highly memorable moments of play, connection, discovery and excitement. We invite everyone to come and play!”
