Cape Town’s musicians are rallying around bassist Sammy Webber for a Solidarity Concert on Thursday, 29 October 2026, at 11 Imam Haron Road, Claremont.

Starting at 7pm, the evening features the Dias House Band and local artists.

Tickets cost R250 and are available through Webtickets.

The message to Capetonians is clear: come out, celebrate Sammy and help make a difference. If you cannot attend, please buy a ticket anyway. Organiser Bevan Trevor confirms that all proceeds will go to Sammy.

This is a chance to give something back to a musician whose bass playing, energy and commitment have helped shape Cape Town’s musical life.

Sammy’s contribution to Virtual Jazz Reality deserves recognition. Alongside trumpeter Ian Smith, pianist Andrew Ford and drummer Frank Paco, he was an integral member of the quartet. His bass anchored the rhythm section, providing the foundation for the band’s interplay, improvisation and musical range.

His lively stage presence added another dimension. Sammy brought movement, personality and an infectious love of performing to VJR, helping make its concerts memorable. For him, the band also became a place of growth, where shared knowledge and musical trust strengthened a partnership that endured for decades.

With Ian Smith and Andrew Ford among the confirmed performers, this solidarity concert carries a meaningful connection to that musical journey.

Born in the Bo-Kaap and raised in Retreat, Sammy built his career through determination and a love of music. His journey from guitar to bass led to years of collaboration and a place in the city’s jazz community.

Health challenges and visual impairment have made that journey difficult. Now, fellow musicians are coming together to offer support while celebrating the artist and the person behind the instrument.

Trevor’s involvement comes from a longstanding friendship. He has given Sammy gigs since the early 2000s and says witnessing his struggle and deteriorating health touched his heart and prompted him to organise the concert.

The confirmed line-up includes Ian Smith, Mickey Rorich, Carmen Xclusive, Leslie Kleinsmith, Mark Daniels, Didier Richards, TJ, Aliyah, Winston Siljeur, Rene Johnson, Greg Higgins, Jonathan Coetzee, Richard Ceasar, Bjorn Petersen, Lance Abrahams, Johnny Williams, Ryan Meyer and his wife, Denver Furness, Vernon Castle, Natalie Rae, Kevin Vrede, Mark Johnson, Roy Rensburg, Kim Louis, Eldred Schilder, Kelly Halford, Andrew Ford, Kevin Gibson, Nazeem Brown, Dylan Roman, Leonie le Roux, Black Ties and Colin Daries.

It is a gathering with a shared purpose: standing alongside Sammy when support matters.

Music lovers, families and businesses are urged to buy tickets, invite friends and spread the word. Businesses can purchase tickets for colleagues or clients. Those unable to attend can still contribute by buying a ticket in solidarity.

Cape Town has applauded Sammy for years. On 29 October, let that appreciation become action.

Book through Webtickets. Tickets are R250. The concert starts at 7pm.
