Jenna Shorkend (15), Cape Town's most beguiling young magical performer, was awarded the 2020 Supreme Up-and-Coming Junior Magician Trophy at the virtual Western Cape Junior Magician Championships on Saturday 5 September 2020.
The College of Magic, in association with Web Shows, hosting this year's online Championships, saw nine teen illusionists from around the province go wand to wand for top honours and the ultimate teen champion titles in Close-Up and Stage Magic.
Shorkend, a College of Magic student and Milnerton resident, dazzled audiences and esteemed judges from around the world, including local celebrity Charles Tertiens, in both contests with a captivating card manipulation close-up magic set inspired by the Hollywood magical blockbuster Now You See Me 2 and a mystical forest and potion themed stage magic act.
The young lady of magic is thrilled with being awarded the Supreme Trophy for up-and-coming junior magician for her successful performance skills and great potential:
"Wow, what an incredible honour! Rehearsing without an audience at home, as well as conjuring props from what was available within my house, presented me with a challenge as to how to best creatively adapt my act. I'm so happy my efforts paid off and have been recognised", says the excited teen.
The College of Magic, Cape Town's only magical arts organisation and the only one of its kind in the world, celebrates its 40th year of teaching the art of magic and its allied arts as well as vital life-skills to children and adults in 2020. Since the start of the national lock-down, the non-profit organisation has reinvented the way that it shares the wonder of magic with its students and audiences through offering its classes online and hosting various virtual shows, including the Stars of Magic, hosted by graduates and renowned entertainers Stuart Taylor, Conrad Koch and Riaad Moosa, in June.
The College of Magic welcomes donations from members of the public. Please donate at www.collegeofmagic.com/donate if you are able to.
I’m looking forward to creating the wonder of your next PR campaign, website content, annual reports or social media posts with you.
