Jacaranda FM, Vodacom and Blue Bulls Donate R100,000 To Woman Battling Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among South African women. In fact, one in every 27 South African women, over the age of 15, are at risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the National Cancer registry. As with all cancers, most breast cancer can be beaten with early diagnoses, treatment and surgery - but the battle is severe and life changing for most survivors and their loved ones.
One of these women, currently in the midst of her cancer fight, is 42-year old single mom, Adéle from Standerton.
This morning on Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels Vodacom and the Blue Bulls rugby team pledged a whopping R100 000 to help Adéle with her medical fees.
Adéle was diagnosed with breast cancer, shortly after her divorce. As a mother and single breadwinner of three children, she cannot afford medical aid and relies on the state for her treatment. She has already been through “red devil” chemo and is currently on chemo once a week for twelve weeks. This means, that she has to drive from Standerton to Pretoria to receive chemo and drive back once a week.
Adéle’s twin sister, Annelie, lives in Lydenburg in Mpumalanga. She is also a single mom, but drives through to Standerton to help Adéle on chemo-days as often as she can. The cost of keeping up with her state-funded breast cancer treatment is still too high to keep up - and that’s why Annelie wrote to Jacaranda FM’S Good Morning Angels hoping to get some help with fuel and travel costs to enable her to win the cancer battle and save her twin sister’s life.
Speaking to Martin Bester on Jacaranda FM, Adéle got the surprise of a lifetime when the breakfast host revealed that communications giant Vodacom will assist Adéle with a donation of R50 000 towards her cancer treatment expenses.
However, Martin Bester had more up his sleeve when he revealed that the Vodacom Blue Bulls players will donate R 25 000 to assist with expenses and necessities - like the correct food - while Adéle is in treatment and beyond.
Additionally, the Vodacom Bulls Management also came on board and revealed that they will donate another R 25 000 towards Adéle’s treatment and recovery.
On Sunday, 30 October, the Vodacom Bulls will face the Cell-C Sharks, donning their official Pink away-gear at Loftus Versfeld - to show support for Breast Cancer awareness, CANSA, and PinkDrive. Both teams will be playing with photos of women and men who have fought cancer, on their jersey back-number. Even though the teams will be battling it out on the field, they are standing united behind Breast Cancer Awareness. Kick-off is at 3pm and tickets are on sale from just R25 p/p at Ticketpros.
