Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels Initiative Helps 2-Year-Old Auryn Hear Her Parents’ Voices for the First Time

Johannesburg, South Africa – Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels initiative has once again transformed a life, this time for 2-year-old Auryn, who will soon be able to hear her parents’ voices for the first time. Diagnosed with profound deafness in both ears, Auryn has only been able to perceive deep bass sounds, missing out on the world of voices and music. Her parents, who have been battling financial and health challenges, faced what seemed like an insurmountable hurdle in raising funds for a cochlear implant.

Auryn’s Journey to Sound

Auryn, whose name has a Gaelic origin meaning “gold,” has faced significant obstacles since her birth in February 2022. Her parents, Nico and his wife, were heartbroken to learn of her profound hearing loss and devastated by the financial burden of a R550,000 cochlear implant, especially after having to cancel their medical aid.

“It was devastating to learn that our daughter couldn’t hear us,” Nico shared. “How did we miss this? It’s heart-breaking, but with the support of Good Morning Angels, Operation Healing Hands, and our family, we now have hope that she will be able to hear and communicate with us.”

Operation Healing Hands and Generous Support

In partnership with Operation Healing Hands, Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels worked tirelessly to turn this dream into reality. Brenché Loubser from Operation Healing Hands reached out to provide critical support, securing the cochlear device from Southern ENT at a significantly reduced price of R150,000—a discount of R100,000. Additionally, hospital fees were lowered, and medical professionals, including doctors and specialists, generously donated their time and expertise.

Despite these discounts, the family still needed R100,000 to cover the costs of the procedure, which is scheduled for 12 November at Zuid-Afrikaans Hospital. Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels Fund has stepped in to contribute the remaining funds, ensuring that Auryn will soon hear the voices of her parents, friends, and family.

A Moment of Life-Changing Impact

“Helping Auryn is one of those moments that reminds us why we do what we do,” said Martin Bester, Jacaranda FM’s breakfast show host. “Knowing she’ll hear her parents’ voices and laughter, the sounds of life we sometimes take for granted, is beyond special. It’s a privilege to be part of this journey for her and her family.”
