For as long as most of us can remember, The Rand Show has been a mecca for fun, entertainment, great retail and tasty treats. While this is still true of the 2022 show, there is a more practical side to the event that will make everyone’s lives a little easier too. Great news after the hill we’ve all had to climb in the past two years.
The Public Service Hall will see public service departments and government agencies servicing visitors by answering pressing labour-related enquiries, Government Employees’ Medical Scheme enquiries, service delivery queries and more.
In addition, visitors can find out about careers in public service. Have you ever wondered how to sign up for the SA Air Force or what it takes to become a scientist in our SA Forensics agencies? Then this is the place for you!
The departments exhibiting at the show in Hall 9 are: the SAPS (South African Police Services), the JMPD (Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department), the Competition Commission, the CRL (Cultural, Religious and Linguistic) Rights Commission, Lifeline SA, the Mopani District Municipality, Rand Water, the South West Gauteng Office, the National Treasury, GEMS (the Government Employees’ Medical Scheme), the Department of Employment & Labour, the Vhembe District Municipality, the CIPC (Companies and Intellectual Property Commission) and the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform & Rural Development.
The Public Service Hall will have something for everyone – even the kids. The JMPD will be setting up the Kiddies’ mini track, which will teach children the rules of the road and road safety in a fun and entertaining way. For the grown-ups, there is a chance to engage with Police Services professionals on serious topics like driver fitness, road safety, crime prevention, bullying, child abuse, human trafficking and substance abuse. And if you ever wondered exactly how speed cameras work, members of the JMPD will be on-hand to give you the inside story.
With venues allowed up to 50% capacity – and taking into account the sheer size of the venue, plus the fact that the show runs across multiple days – the Rand Show is not only geared for catering to enthusiastic visitors out for a day of fun, people can also conveniently make use of public service outlets – many of which were restricted during lockdown. The Rand Show is an opportunity to boost the local economy as businesses get back to what they do best – supply products and services to the consumer.
Rand Show 2022 is proudly sponsored by Kaya 95.9, MTN, Coca Cola, Jacaranda FM, Beacon, AB InBev and the SANDF; and supported by Mahindra, the SAPS, Masterdrive, Volkswagen Soweto, Toyota Soweto, Legends Barber and the Gauteng Tourism Authority.
