Stef Bos & Friends to Celebrate a 35-Year Musical Journey at Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts
Written by: Sasha Maripane Save to InstapaperThe Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts are set to host a special and deeply personal performance by renowned Belgian-Dutch singer-songwriter Stef Bos on Sunday, 23 February 2025. With a career spanning over three decades and a profound connection to South Africa, Bos will take audiences on a musical journey honouring his love for the country, its people, and its rich cultural heritage.
With more than 20 albums to his name, Stef Bos has left an indelible mark on the music scenes of both Europe and Africa. His bond with South Africa began in the early 1990s through a collaboration with the late Johannes Kerkorrel and has since deepened through his work with icons like Hugh Masekela, Thandi Klaasen, David Kramer, Taliep Petersen, Koos Kombuis, Amanda Strydom, and Sibongile Khumalo. His albums ‘Van Mpumalanga tot die Kaap’ and ‘Kloofstraat’ reflect his artistic inspiration drawn from South Africa, making his music an evocative and heartfelt experience.
Stef Bos shared his sentiments on coming to Kirstenbosch for this performance: “This concert is my love declaration to South Africa – a country rich in beauty, the sounds of its magnificent languages, and its cultures. It is a privilege to perform at the foot of Table Mountain, surrounded by people with an extraordinary spirit. I give back what I have received over the years alongside some of my musical friends who have become part of my journey. At this moment, I feel everything coming together – I have come full circle. Come and enjoy the meeting of two continents at Kirstenbosch.”
For this special occasion, Bos will be accompanied by a South African band and a string orchestra led by Jaconel Mouton, bringing to life songs that span his illustrious career. As a celebration of his enduring relationship with South Africa—where he met his wife and raised his three children—this performance will be an emotional and unforgettable afternoon of storytelling through music.
Sarah Struys, Events and Tourism Manager at Kirstenbosch expressed her excitement: “Stef Bos embodies the deep and enduring artistic and linguistic ties between South Africa, Belgium and the Netherlands. His ability to capture this in song is extraordinary, and his performance at Kirstenbosch will be a beautiful, moving experience for all who attend.”
As the sun sets behind Table Mountain, audiences will be transported through melodies that bridge continents, celebrating the unbreakable bonds of music, memory, and shared experiences.
